New question here. 40t cog cassette with sram derailleur

    hallo!

i have an x0 short cage derailleur (not type 2) and the 40t cog couldn't work because there was not enough clearance.

    am i doing something wrong?

i am thinking of buying an x9 type 2 derailleur short cage.

will that work? has anybody done it?

    Regards

need to know more..every rd has a certain 'volume' of teeth it can manage, but need to know what you have? 3x, 2x, 1x? and if so, need to know the range of your cassette and the smallest and largest chainring sizes up front. subtract your small cog teeth number from the 40...and add that number to the number you get subtracting the small number of teeth in the front ring from the number of the large ring (assuming 2x or 3x). be like, (40-11) + (44-22) = 51 for example. that system would need a rd that has at least a 51 tooth capacity. start there..

If you're riding a HT...the short should be ok...but if you're on a full suspension...I'd get the mid cage just to be on the safe side.

I ran a 40T cog with an short X0 Type 2 derailleur and it fit fine with proper b-screw adjustment. Mine is a 2013 model and if you have a 2012 or older version of the derailleur, I believe they won't work due to design differences.
