12 speed XT cassette with XX1 crankset

I currently ride a Stumpjumper that has GX Eagle. Nothing wrong with it at all -- rides fine and is far more capable than I am.

However, I would like to move to Shimano XT/XTR for reasons.

I have an XX1 crankset with Quarq that I would like to reuse.

Can I use the 12 speed Shimano chain / cassette with the XX1 crank and chainring? Or would the Sram chain work better with this scenario? Or is this going to make my bike explode?

I see a lot of talk about Shimano derailluers with Sram cassette, but nothing about what I am looking to do.

I understand that I'll need microspline for my rear wheel.

    Thanks!

Shimano Chain will work with Sram qlink.

You want both the Shimano Cassette and chain, those together are what is giving the new 12 spd it's amazing shifting. Leave one out and then there's really no point.

You can also get a Shimano 12 spd compatible ring from Wolftooth for your crank. https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/...perglide-chain

Not sure how worn your ring is, but if I were putting a new cassette and chain on my bike, I wouldn't bother reusing a worn ring.

Worse, SRAM and Shimano 12spd cassettes are not exactly the same. Mixing them won't work as well as a full set of either brand, even though you'll find plenty of people online who don't seem to care much say that it "works" and show you videos of it in a workstand (news flash, things always work better in the workstand than they do in real life).

I'm using a Shimano chain with an Eagle quicklink in it right now, because nobody makes a Shimano HG+ compatible chainring in 28t size that'll fit with my Race Face cranks. I'm not sure if the fancy SRAM Eagle chainrings with the wacky teeth plays nice with Shimano 12spd, but like TwoTone posted, Wolftooth is there to save your bacon if it doesn't.

Thanks to both of you -- looks like I can grab that wolftooth chainring and be off riding slowly (and happily). I'll report back with how it all works out.
