10 speed Shimano SLX M660 vs M670? What is the difference?

    Hi there guys.

I cant seem to find the difference between the SLX M660 and M670 shifter?

Can anybody help? I've been given a 10 speed M670 left and need a right. I would like to match them.

    Thanks in advance

A guess - Maybe cosmetics only, but there could be a trickle down of technology from XT

The M660 is the older model and did come in 9-speed and 10-speed (like M770). The M670 has a newer style as well as the newer upshift lever cover (small lever to shift to higher cogs) which is a metal lever underneath. It also has a 2/3 speed front shifter converter which is very minor since all it does is lock the shifter in front gears 2 & 3 bypassing the granny gear. This is to accommodate 2X cranks (not 3X cranks with a bash since you don't need the mode converter for that).

Just skimming the internet it looks like the 670 has the 2/3 speed switch and has an I-spec version. Probably the cover design has been modified for that.

Thanks guys. Looks like Its not that big a difference really but I got a M670 for just under 24 which is the cheapest online.

also great bit of info about the x2 and x3 setting on the Front shifter. I would have most probably tried to use it in x2 mode thinking that because I was only using 2 chainrings that it would work. I am going to run 2x +bash. I'm not fit enough to get rid of the granny haha.
