Will Mt. Mitchel Destroy My Bike?

A buddy of mine is moving to Asheville, NC in a few weeks. I live close by and we both have been interested in Mt. Mitchell for some time. We are planning on making a camping/biking trip in the near future.

Thing is, he thinks the downhill on this mountain will destroy my bike. I agree I don't have the best setup for this, but will I be putting myself in danger?

I've got a Giant Revel 26"...here is the link to specs

Is this something I should really buy a new bike, or rent, to even attempt?

Depends on how skilled you are. Personally I would rent a proper all Mountain or dh bike

I second renting a bike. It will be more fun. What is the total elevation drop at Mt. Mitchel?

Could you take your current bike and be careful with line choice, sure. You may have to get off and walk around stuff. The other concern is the rim brakes, which are fine at times, but if you've got a long descent, they'll get hot and start to fade.
