    What tools/spares do you carry?

Up at Whistler last week I was blown away by the number of riders broken down on the trails with no tools. Even on that mountain it can be a pretty long walk if you break up near the top. I stopped and helped as many as I could but I probably could of spent the whole day fixing bikes if I hadn't ridden past some.

I noticed people were not even carrying basics like a multi-tool, tube, pump, etc. Maybe it's just a Whistler thing but it got me to wondering if these people go out on trails outside of the resort without tools. One thing in particular that can burn us freeriders is the rear thru-axle. I know mine takes a 17 mm wrench which is not part of any multi-tool and is easy to miss. A chain tool and a spare quick link is another one that is easy to get burned on and weighs close to nothing to cary.

So what's in your tool kits?

spare chain, bolts zip ties, 10 honey bar-b-q peanut power bar thingies(they were on sale for 5$ a box and they taste like crap). And from now on im carrying a spare whole hayes front brake( not a joke I had my front brake fail about 1/6 of the way down silverton), tubes tubes tubes. When the combined weight of you and your bike is over 300 pounds, you carry all that fits.

My backpack resembles WCH both in contents and smell
    Here's my list .....

SOG crosscut CC50 .. these little things will cut your full size leatherman in half with their geared sizzors

    Allen wrenches . 4mm , 5mm , 6mm , 8mm and a few others randomly thrown in .

Crescent wrench .. for my real axle

Chain tool ..... the Topeak Alein is my current favorite !

Tube ... IRC DH tube ... I only need one , these things never flat !

small rool of duck tape ... when the worlds end I'm ready !

Water Bottle ... converted into small smoking apparatus

MISC small machined bit's .... these are needed to make the above mentioned apparatus work properly

Water ... I dont drink much water when riding , but this is also needed to help the above mentioned apparatus work with best results

BIC lighter , not just for above mentioned apprentice , you will need one of these of you get lost in the woods

FOOD ... depending on the ride and time of year this could be as simple as a few energy bars and a redbull , or as elaborate as Chinese chicken salad and small snacks

When I ride at resorts I just leave my camelback by the lift, I hate taking my camelback over armor. I keep my wallet in my pocket.

    In my camelback I have:

Some bandaids and other little first aid stuff
    Tire pump sometimes
    Patch kit, but no tube
Light stick and space blanket incase I get lost!
    Food
    Water
    Gatorade
    small tool kit
Rain jacket if it looks like it will rain.
If you're not living on the edge you're taking up to much space.

    In my CamelBak:

    2 DH Tubes
    2 Allen Key Sets
    1 Pump
    1 Shock Pump (Sometimes...)
1 Socket Wrench (For my rear wheel removal)
    Tire Irons
    Patch Kit

To be honest, it seems like a lot of stuff, but it doesn't weight that much or get in the way. And I'd WAY rather be prepared in case something does go wrong. People think they can get away without tools and stuff at resorts, but to be honest, thats where I would ride my bike the hardest and get the most pinch flats.

If you do Downieville.....make sure you bring PLENTY of stuff, cause if you goof up there...its a friggin LONG ASS WALK!

    Multi-tool
2 Flat tire patch kits (Patch, tire levers, sand paper etc.)
    Extra tube
    Shock pump
    Tire pump
    Cell phone
    Water (Hydration pack)
One of those small CO2 canisters, with an adaptor for tire tube inflation (In case I need to inflate a tire quickly)
Sometimes this varies depending on the ride, but this is my usual setup.
