    What size chainring?

Hey, I'm getting a single speed guide for my Dirtbag which is due to arrive on wednesday (yeah!) and I need some advice. I do freeride and downhill and am thinking either 36t or 38t. I had a 38 on my old DH bike and really do not remember what it feels like. I don't pedal uphill much, but if the situation occurs, I would like a chainring small enough to do short climbs, but one that I will not be spinning in a DH race.
    So.....36 or 38? or other?
    Thanks.

To be honest, I rarely pedal uphill. Rocky DH shuttle runs and FR hike-a-bikes mostly. With the occasional race and mammoth trip.

How quick would you say you get going? you mach'n level 5? or somewhere around level 3? But for super rocky stuff, I would say go for 36... more open and balls out, I would go for 38..

Try the 36 then. If you spend a lot of time in your smaller gears, then get a 38...
