New question here. what should i avoid?

so im looking into buying a used DH bike (also my first one). is there anything i should look out for or avoid in general? ive never trusted when people say "has a large dent but doesnt affect ride"

Well... frames that have a dent in load bearing area really shouldn't affect performance. As a general rule of thumb though, I'd stay away from bikes with large dents. It's a buyers market, do your homework and keep a sharp eye, and you'll find something perfect.

Unlike a hardtail or even a short travel XC bike, DH bikes take an insane amount of beating, so be sure to look for things like clean bearings (obviously bearings can be replaced, but poorly maintained bearings can grind out a frame pretty fast), look for play in the shock mounts, cracks in the chainstays ect.
