What coil spring should I run on a 2007 dhx?

What coil spring should I run on a 2007 dhx? I'm 190 lbs without gear. I have been told that the older shocks had different recommendations than new ones and Santa Cruz recommendations were a little light. The 2009 recommendation from Santa Cruz says #450. That sounds about right. Please give me your input.

Not sure which bike you are riding...but I have a VP Free that came with a 450# (recommended by SC because I am ~190 - 200 pounds in full gear).
I have since switched to a 550# which Fox says is pretty much spot on for my weight. So I agree with your statement that says SC run a little light.

I am on an '05 Heckler. What year DHX are you running? My shock is an '07 and I'm told it runs different than new shocks. Does that make sense?

A friend of mine at your weight 190lbs on a 2006 heckler runs 450 x 2.35 and he says its a bit plush so my guess would be 500 x 2.35.

it has everything to do with the leverage ratio of your suspension, your riding style and personal preference to suspension feel... not just your weight.

Email the dudes at PUSH industries... they have a spring calculator and loads of experience solving these problems.

    450 plush a little undersprung
    500 bigger hits

For that bike you don't want to hit really big stuff so I would go the more plush route

My DHX came on my new frame (December 06). I had it PUSHED in April of 2007.
So I rode it stock for a full season of DH.

I do not know why your 07 would "run different than new shocks" Not sure what this means.....
2007 is pretty new. I'm not so sure the DHX has changed much from 07 - 08.

Main thing for choosing a coil is making sure the length & stroke are whats required for the frame.
