Assuming that your bike is full suspension, the distance from the bottom bracket to the axle increases as you go through the travel. When your chain is not long enough to account for the chaingrowth, it can put stress on the derailleur, causing it too snap.

Im assuming it didnt go in the spokes?
If it didnt then blame short chain, or already cracked...

what i'm wondering is why you chose to photograph the forlorn derailleur at your weaksauce kitchen faucet like that....odd, very odd.

A Saint derailleur would have broken your chain.

i took pics on the sink cause theres a florescent light right above and if i used a flash it reflected off the deraillure and you couldnt see as much so i just used the place with the best lighting, and my thunb isnt double jointed

shimano draillers are known to slap around violently, rotating around the mounting bolt in any rough stuff...
LX is crap. if you stay with shimano, go XT , saint or XTR. Had an LX on my wife's bike and it BROKK; the shifting sucked bad all the way up till the end.

if i were to choose a brand new drivetrain i'd go with sram, but i've got the sram rocket 1:1's, and not about to chuck em...
