    UST rim help

Just got a used set of Mavic D3.1's and the seller sent them to me running non ust highrollers with XC presta valve tubes in them...

I'm stoked on getting those tubes out of there ASAP but what kind of valve do I need to attach to get it happening? can they be picked up at a LBS?

SUB QUESTION: the tires seem to have a hop in them, The rims are true and no dings but the tires themselves seem to be seated off center in some spots.. sup w/that?

You can check your bnike shop to see if they have the ust valve cores if you want them asap.

Mavic D3.1's are the first version of the 823's

you can run non ust highrollers but use Stans...just reset the bead with soapy water

presta valve you can get at LBS...you take off the tire and the valve fits inside the rim like you would run a tube....then it tightens down on the rim

I thought the 3.1 and the 819 were the same, not the 823.

You're thinking of the X3.1, the X I believe was for cross mtn which is now XM819. The D was for Downhill which is now EX823 for extreme or something like that.

Cool. Now I understand why they changed the naming convention.

What was the X3.1 is now the xm819

What was the D3.1 is now the xm823

Loozinskin, you can actually make your own UST valve cores out of old tubes- you have to trim the rubber almost all the way off two sides to get them to sit inside the rim's center chanel. It works OK but it's a lot of fiddling, get the UST stems or stans and you're set. PS, windex works awesome (better than soapy water imho) for helping seat tires...

    I like to........
try some dishwashing soap around everything and the strait "jell" of the dishwashing (without water) around the tire bead
