    uhhggg! more UST help.

    So the Mavic D3.1's (AKA EX819's)....


    -got a set of proper UST valves installed.
    -now I've got a semi leaky air seal around the bead/rim going on the rear tire (2.35 highroller)
    -and I cant seem to get the front (2.7 Mobster) to catch the bead at all.


    Tricks and tips here would be rad!

    NOTE: these are non UST tires that I'm trying to mate with UST specific rims. Do I need to use some Stan's goop then to reinforce the seal?

    yes you are going to need stans if its not a ust tire

    Soapy rim preparation is non-negotiable. I had a persistent slow leak until I finally bit the bullet and unseated my Maxxis 2.5" High Roller DH (non-UST) from my XM819 and re-prepped with soapy water. Then it held air just fine.

    Make sure you find an air compressor. Go to the local gas station if necessary.

    also make sure to get a presta to schrader adapter , priceless .30c piece when at the gas station with your presta tubed valve

    Wow, tubless just doesn't seem worth the hassle

    For the mechanically challenged. Seriously though, once you get even half a handle on how to install and work with tubeless setups, it becomes very routine and easy.

    1. Make sure the inside of the rim is clean including the bead
    2. If the tire is dirty/used then wipe down the bead
    3. Install tire on rim
    4. Spray bead with simple green or similar cleaner - get the tire & rim wet but don't over do it.
    5.Fill tire with air to max pressure - tire should make a ruckus - snap, crackle, pop - as it seats on the rim. If it goes on quietly you probably don't have a goood seal. Older tires will go on quiter but will still make some noise as they seat on the rim
    6. Leave it this way for as long as you can then adjust pressure for riding
    7. For big tires, 2.5+ and DH casings, you will need to use a compressor set at about 90 psi to get the bead to seal. Once the bead seals be very careful and watch the pressure gauge and do not exceed the tires max psi

    Carry a CO2 pump on the trail

    Carry a small tube of gel super glue - if you get a small puncture this will fix it quicker than anything. Simply pinch the puncture between your fingers add a drop or two of glue - wait about a minute - fill with air - go ride.

    Any puncture larger than 1/4" and you may have to stick a tube in it and deal with it when you get home.

    I bet people said the same thing about suspension forks and disc brakes about 15 years ago.
