Suspension goes 3D (a little OT but what the hell)

Well, I'm too sick to ride and my axle is kinda messed up so I figured what the hell might as well do something creative .

These took me a little over 2.5 hours to complete (that's, together, not each). so don't expect anything TOO cool. I'll put real textures on later...

that rendering is pretty poor for 3DSMax. if you get working on inverse kinematics it will help you design it.

max is really powerful, but not really an engineering app. IK is very easy to learn, at least it WAS 4 years ago.

if you want to get into rendering , get the Brazil plugin. splutterfish.com

and to get back to the porn subject, here's a starting point...also rendered with Brazil.

I modeled up my old Monty trials bike at uni a few years ago to learn how to use Solid Edge.

It took ages, and getting the chain to fit over the sprockets was a pita. The rendering isn't brilliant, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

The front wheel on the real bike is straight laced, and the rear is three cross on the drive side and straight laced on the other side, but I cbfd doing it all properly.

Lol ok I'll "look around" for a copy for less.

    Jake-
Damn that's nice looking stuff! But I do most of my 3D work for game dev, so if I go above like 1000 poly's per component of a bike, it kinda gets waked out.

If you can get some time on Solidworks I would highly recommend it. There is a thread by SaberMTB on here where he used Solidworks to draw his Stinky linkage plates, check it out, I think that you'll be impressed. The fork and the shock would have taken an hour or less on Solidworks.

... ok I will look into them... but I REALY hate to learn ANOTHER 3d program. Let me see, I THINK I know:
    Max
    Maya
    3DGS
fragMotion (some guy bought it for me to animate something he made)
I fool around with Light Wave a little
I have used tons of others just to play with them but that's all I can think of that I have fluently used.
