They seem to get "jammed" together at least half of the time. Skinny needle nose pliers are what you need. The "no tools required" think is kind of a farce. More often than not they don't just "come apart" for me.
I know in my heart that Ellsworth bikes are more durable by as much as double. AND they are all lighter...Tony Ellsworth

    Channel Locks

I work in a shop and when we have to take SRAMs off for cleaning a pair of channel locks works the best. I have never ruined a quick link and an 8 inch pair has always done the trick. (Squeeze on the diagonal). Also you get a better bite than with a pair of needle nose pliers. Although needle nose will work.

Ive never had any problem removing the powerlinks by hand, been using PC-59's for years (99 is a waste IMO for FR/DH - what, save 10g? lol)

you need to press the chain together (compress laterally) and then push th elinks together. I did however have one magically eject and leave my chain on the ground (fortunately while I was stopping, found the chain 10' back, never spotted the PLink.)

The KMC links are hard to get apart even with pliers!! Some company makes a tool for sperating them, I cant recall the brand, but if I recall I will post it!!!
