Okay, now that dirtnut has made me feel bad...

...I have a couple pair of old baggy cargo shorts that I wear over hip/tail protection. I also use these shorts for yard work/painting around the house.

I think I'm going to be upgrading to a more dedicated downhill short this season since the cargo shorts are becoming ripped up and ratty. Not to mention they don't dry very quickly when wet since they're cotton.

Pants can be nice at times, but around here they are too hot for most of the summer imo.
This is what I am rocking this year:

Ride nekkid. Baggy shorts develop air pockets that slow you down kind of like a parachute.

I'm actually amazed at the amount that wear add on padding. I always wore upper body armor and shin/knee protection but just baggy cycling shorts. i didn't realize that they existed until recently.

do you guys have multiple pairs or wear the same ones for a few day trips?

I surprised I don't see any skin suits for that extra speed!

I rock shorts with a roadie bib - keeps the boys in place - scared to do otherwise.

I just have one padded pair of shorts that go under the baggy shorts. I still wear some wicking underwear underneath so don't wash em super often and that seems to work fine.

Fox shorts which I take the chamis out for DHing. On the rare occasion that I'm XCing, I'll put the chamis back in. Also I have a pair of Nema shorts. So in other words, loose with no padding.

+1 The moto shorts are tough and durable. I use them for MX and DH.

I wear a pair of Oakley's similar to these: Oakley Sunday DH Shorts available online at Oakley Vault with a pair of Under Armor or Nike compression shorts under to keep everything in place.

Wow! Those are expensive! Especially for a clearance site.
