    Short DH vid

My roommate shot this of me today on a trail I built. The camera died pretty quickly so we didn't get any of the other runs at this spot...hopefully soon.

    Today was slick and treacherous.

Pretty much just riding 5x a week instead of on here! I'm living in Boone, NC going to school at Appalachian State; school and riding take up most of my time.

The trail doesn't really go that way, it ends on the rock. The first time he did a sweet skid out to body varial/barrell roll on the rock, but I didn't get it on film. That hurt so the next run was the money shot through the creek. Its all about fun

nice. NC is fun to ride. I am CO but my college flew out to NC for Collegiate Nationals and it was a blast. it was a nice change from the desert/slickrock we were use to riding.

Hell yeah man, we're 15 minutes from there. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah that rock was about slick as ice so I had no choice but to slow down and aim for the creek. The first two attempts at stopping on that rock resulted in ninja rolls and creek diving.

I wish the same thing. My friend that let us build it (and 4 others just as good as it) in his backyard doesn't even ride!

A couple stills from that spot, since the vid is pretty low quality till we get someone to host a good one.

Everything out there is fully handmade rockwork and bench cuts. Since this spot is only about 400 vertical feet, the runs are about 1 minute each, so its essentially a technical skills training playground. Lots of fun, hopefully I'll get another vid together this week.

very nice. hey Pirate, got a q for ya. you said you only have bout 400 foot vert. i am currently working on a trail w/ bout 300 foot vert, which is A LOT for here (Kansas :'( ) now i have built trails b4 but just DJ trail. you got any tips as to ways to keep it fun yet progressive w/ such limited vert? i could make it longer but it would be flatter, or steeper but way shorter?

Is that a joke? I think every video put out in the 90s covered that type of music pretty well.

Turns, LOTS of turns. In between the turns, put rocks in. You can't go wrong with that.

Yeah, use turns to slow you down before sections you want less speed in, that way there is no awkward braking or hitting stuff way too fast (gaps, drops, etc...). Work your contours rather than going straight down the mountain. You may have to skip some features you like, but if you're going for a longer run it will be worth it. Even switchbacks can be made pretty fast and flowy if you cut them right and make them wide enough. Basically, make an effort to use as much of the land as you have available and it will come out longer. Our trails at this spot are all in the 1-minute range, but they have basically zero pedalling and technical features and turns the whole way down.
