This is sure to be a good time. The BMX track on that location is really nice. Also, this park is really, really nice. I, for one, am looking forward to the DH and BMX race...

how tough is the DH course? I have a hardtail freeride bike with 120mm up front. Doable? or just not even think about it?

The name 'DH course' is a bit misleading here. It's more of a single slalomn (sp) course. Its real bermy with lots of turns and jumps. No rock gardens or drops, all pretty smooth. I plan on doing it on my HT with 100mm of travel.
Note -- this is how the course is now, I am not sure if there are plans to change it but I doubt it, at least I haven't heard of any and I am all-knowing and surely everyone one would check with me first before they do anything.

No worries there! I'm not too sure about the DH course, but I have been to the BMX track, and it is pretty sick. A lot of pretty decent sized step-ups and step-downs with big 'ol berms. I will plan to bring my BMX bike, as well.

damn there's NO hotels in that area that is cheap, all are full already. Looks like we'll be shacking in Ventura then drive the 30 minutes up on race day.

Check Carpentaria or Goleta for a motel, it should be a little cheaper and they may have some rooms left. Or, you can sleep in the back of your truck...that's always a good time!

Carpentaria is out of rooms too, I'll try that Goleta and hope for some luck. Seems like there's going to be a decent turn out if all the hotels are booked.

Yeah it's going to be impossible to find any rooms that weekend. UCSB's graduation is that weekend and everything has been booked for months. I'd offer up my extra room but the in-laws already have dibs on it. The wife is getting her Master's degree. Luckily her cerimony is on Friday.

More fun on that Saturday includes a concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl. It's being put on by KJEE. Artists include Pinback, Pepper, Hot Hot Heat and others.

It's gonna be a good day.

my chances of going are pretty slim, as it will be the second consecutive weekend I will have taken off work after the Cal State race in fontucky, so unless I can manage more hours, I don't think I can make it

I rode the DH course yesterday and it's like KONA_in_SB said. Very BMX-y-lots of bermed out turns, doubles, and a table top or two, A hardtail with a 100-130mm fork would be perfect for this.

Agreed, Pepper is a good and so is Pinback. Emo they are not. Don't care much for the other bands on the bill. I think it starts at 3pm, so I'm gonna try to catch both events that day.
