    Riding natural terrain

I'm pretty new to mountain biking for the most part. Used to ride MX as a kid a whole lot, started out mountain biking as a way to kind of rekindle that old passion, but it has grown to so much more. There's something about being a bicycle. Okay well anyways, I've got access to lots of land with hills, natural jumps, etc etc. I love to ride out in those areas way more than tracks for some reason. Anyone else ever do anything similar this? Please share!

Never ridden on a track. I ride out my front door for ten minutes on asphalt, then I'm alone in the dirt out in the desert. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Riding off piste varies in enjoyability depending on your terrain.

Where I am in sf Bay area, as soon as you leave the trail you get very soft decomposition of leaves and branches which is no fun to ride up or down. There's also too much brush to make it through most areas.

But I could see it being fun if you had rolling hills with short grass or other terrain which is mostly firm.
