am i the only one that thinks this is a bad idea? Let's take the boredom of XC marathon racing and add to DH.. there's a reason why xc mt. biking isn't being shown on tv for the olympics..

I don't think it is such a bad idea. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but it is still progression and would probably be a lot of fun.

    Lights?

Anyone know of a light kit that will mount on a full face? We might be needing them. I've heard that this is gonna go from 9am to 9pm, and it'll be getting dark about 730 or 8, so...go with a half lid, or try to rig a full face for a light system?

I don't know dude, this seems like an event for the riders and not so much the spectators. ..

which i think is a good thing..

it sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

Sounds like a lot of fun. How is this going to work though? So you keep riding down until the 12 hour mark and combine all the times? How do you guarantee everyone gets the same amount of runs?

Oh hell yes! I'm so in. And mount your light on the bars, way better! We do night DH runs in SLO and they are so much fun. I swear I ride better at night than I do during the day anyways.

probably looking for the most combined runs over the 12 hour period. they don't really have to time your run, just have to scan you in at a checkpoint once per lap.

i already got my 4 man team..

what exactly is the format? i assume it will be lap based and ran like a XC 24hr race. Are they going to make sure you dont get on the lift til ur teammate gets down?

Total laps + your finish time. Same way the 24 hour XC guys do it. Here's an example:

36 laps (or runs in this case) with a finish time of 9:05:30 pm wins over the following:
    1. anything less than 36 laps
    2. anyone finishing 36 laps AFTER 9:05:30

    Make sense?

More info going up everyday at www.angelfireburner.com from what it looks like. Online reg is going, details are being hammered out, DO IT. If you don't show up, there's no way you'll ever know if I'm lying about Dan and Gee!

Sick! I just got an email about the Burner, looks like the announced the tracks they'll be running! Mmmmm... new Angel Fire DH tracks...

TRACK #1: This is the straight up World Cup Track: lots of rocks, great flow, and all the gnar you junkies have come to expect from Angel Fire!

TRACK #2: This BRAND NEW DH course is called the "Supreme Dream" and it's looking like a GREAT track. It starts within 100 yards of the Chili Express Chair lift and traverses the area just to the right of the chair lift. We walked the course yesterday from top to bottom and we think that course is going to be a great time on two wheels, with some steep drops plus a few jumps and berms near the bottom.

TRACK #3: Just after the Chile Challenge, Angel Fire went and built a super fun flowy greenish/blue type run, that we're planning on having serve as the "recovery" course It is a fun easy course anybody can ride so all you begginers and sports there is a sweet course for all you guys. This course will also be great for the solo guys and gals who need a rest and still achieve a lap count.
The older I get, the faster I was.

Hells yes. Myself and four of my buds are headed to AF from Phoenix to tear that mountain to F'n pieces! We'll that might be an exageration, chances are we'll get hammered and fall of the lift.

Seriously though, it's gonna be fun. I'm kinda surprised not to many people have signed up yet. I'm hitting up solo and I have a feeling it's gonna hurt REAL bad after hour 8 or so.

You're Bullshizzin us about the Atherton's right?

They will have lights there to rent if you don't have one. OR just tie a tree branch to your fork and set it on fire.

OR if you are feeling super bold just tie a tree branch to your fork and NOT set it on fire go down blind person style feel your way with the branch or have your team mate leave scent markers

That sounds killer!! Hopefully it goes over with wonderful success and some other resorts get the idea to give it a try...like some east coast venues!! We rode Snowshoe a few times in the dark years ago and it was amazing!

Red Final Descent/Bull Burner is on for 2010

Just heard that the Red Bull Burner (which is actually getting a new name the RED BULL FINAL DESCENT) 12 hour downhill enduro is on for October 9th 2010 at Angel Fire Resort, NM. So stoked! Red Bull has also scheduled to host the event as a series and has added Winter Park, CO on Sept 18th. Official info is due out soon and will reside at both Angel Fire's webpage and Winter Park's. So excited, this was one of the raddest events I have ever participated in ever, so join me and mark your calendars!
