after i break a collar bone, im out of the sling after around 10-14 days and im back on the bike doing light riding after 6 weeks. i strat riding normaly after about 9-10 weeks.

your lucky you didnt break joint (wrist, ankle, knee, neck )...last time i broke a wrist, the cast was off after 8 weeks and i still couldnt ride 100% after 3 1/2 months since i broke it. the pain stoped at around 4-5 months...

best thing to do during your healing time is find a do-able paying job and keep working out your legs so they dont feel like jello on your first big ride back on your bike .

Broke it a year and half ago and been riding normally for about 1yr 3months. That said my collar bone is still not normal. I spent 6 months going to dr appointments only to have him tell me I might need surgery. Of course he told this to me at the last appointment so I had wasted 6 months when I could have been recovering from surgery. Point is see a good sports medicine dr who understands that riding is part of life.

My first collar bone took about 4 weeks to heal but then I had to wait for my back to heal (compressed 2 vertabrae). After about six weeks I was doing light riding. Second collar bone took about 6 weeks until I was on the bike, about 8 until I was jumping. Hope you heal up fast, and i hope they gave you a good amount of vicodin.

I had my shoulder operated on in December (3rd deg AC sep and rotator tear). They sawed off the end of the collarbone (about 2"), fixed up the rotator and I was back riding in about 6 wks.

Good luck, heal well, and try to stay that way.

I broke mine last Sept. on the distal third (close to the shoulder and AC joint) and it was very sore and bruised like crazy. I gave it the standard 6 weeks and started riding and rehab. Jan this year rolls around and I have a very similar crash as before but with less impact and re-brake in the same spot. Second time around it didn't hurt anywhere near as much as before and I had virtually no bruising.

The biggest thing I can recommend is taking Calcium supplements and follow the healing along with x-rays ...... I can't stress this enough! I didn't do this the first time and I'm convinced that it wasn't properly healed in the first place.

It's been 7 weeks and my shoulder feels great but the x-ray show's the healing is incomplete .... the bones have fused together but the void hasn't completely filled in. So I'm getting another x-ray in April and still taking it easy with the arm ... ie no biking.

Everyone heals at different rates and the only way to tell what's happening is the x-ray. I was told by the doc that it can take up to 18 months for a bone to reach 100% strength (varies by age, heal, etc).

So to sum up, follow the healing along with those X-RAYS!!!!!
