v-bakes work better than Hayes Mechanical discs, avid makes the only good mechanical discs. you will be dissapionted in the hayes should you go that route.....

I've got Hayes mag hydros on my DH bike and my trail bike and I've got a Hayes HMX-1 on my hardtail with the Hayes lever. I thought the Hayes mech. was supposed to suck because of all the bad things I read on the internet, but mine works every bit as good as my hydros. Great modulation and easily locks up with one finger. Maybe it's how you set them up or something.

Remember that when you are buying them you must ad the price of levers and cables.
