    That's gotta hurt

Those are the worst grinds I've seen. I don't think they can stitch that.

you realize that is the back of his ankle right? all ankles are supposed to look like that. the dip comes from the bottom of the fibula, the side of the calcaneus(heel), and your achilles tendon.

    UPDATE
I just had a nurse friend give it a look and she said It could go either way...so I'm not going to stitch it. stitching would only serve to lesson the scarring. The bleeding seems to be stopping and i cleaned well. Should be fine.

It's not like it will be worse than this 22 stitch scar on my elbow.

oh come on, that doesn't need stitches guys. i did almost the exact same thing...a few good long gashes on my right leg, except they were on my shin. it healed up fine. then i did it again a few months later. so i got some 5.10 shoes. slippage happens MUCH less often now.

Those gashes are pretty damn sweet! be sure to tell the ladies some elaborate story about how your were attacked by a starving pack of rabid mountain lions and fended them off bare-handed and was left only with those gashes. Sounds way more bad ass than slipping off the pedals on your bicycle.

    Oh and get some 5.10's

Keep in mind that the human body was designed before such vile instruments of destruction as the gun or knife or speeding 2-wheeled contratption and that when it was first introduced to the world, it was much more difficult to crack your head open than it is today. Plus humans didn't have as much knowledge back then, so they probably didn't figure out how to crack their own heads open until around the same time the fire was invented.

    In conclusion girls are icky.

The achilles is sticking out, and so is the ankle, like normal....

but then I'm skinny/athletic, so I'm biased. Maybe you don't have a dip if you have cankles?

Shave it, both sides, then clean it w/soap and water and a light scrub brush, then betadine or hydrogen peroxide pat it dry and butterfly it closed. Good as new.

if you were stranded in the jungle, i'd recommend finding this one particular ant that you can hold on each side of the wound, have it bite on each side.. then twist its head off making it clamp down harder.. enough ants will close a wound..

go find those instead of stitches ..

May your first shower be pleasant......... man that is gonna hurt..... Ouch!

That is almost the worst I have ever seen. The only one that stands out more was when Steve Romo took the nast gash on his shin in Drop In,..wide open and very similiar.

Be careful of infection, I had a staff infection once from deep wounds that were not treated. It's a very dangerous situation which landed me with a three day stay in the hospital while they pumped antibiotics in my arm. I was able to watch the red swelling run up my arm, and then down during treatment...

Don't you hate that? It seems whenever I don't wear pads, I crash and do something like that. When I do wear pads, I clear everything without a scratch.

I was riding my urban rig from my apartment to a riding spot in college and had my shinguards strapped to the back of my backpack. Saw a nice little drop on the way, about 4 feet or so, hucked it. One foot came off the pedal so when I landed, all my weight was on the foot that was still on a pedal. This launched the other pedal around and into my shin. Huge gash, lots of blood. Rode home, took pictures of it (at work now, I'll try and dig them out when I get home later) with my roommate before cleaning it out. There was a piece of a tendon or something hanging out and it would gurgle when I moved the flesh around it. Chunk of me(at) left on the pedal. Awesome! Find out we're out of tape. Walk to CVS with leg still gushing blood, buy tape, walk home, bandage it up. Done. Saved myself the ER or doctor's office insurance copay and the time waiting.

That was over a year ago and I still have no feeling in that spot on my shin. Severed some nerves too evidently.

Where did you see that? I swear i saw that or read it in a book...you get them to bite down then you twist off their bodies and they act like stitches...but it definitely didn't need stitches...

I just had a similar thing I was going in for ACL replacement on Monday and decided to get one more ride in before went off a little log drop and for some unknown reason went off goofy footed landed slipped a pedal and ended up with 6 stitches and a broken big toe and the drop was at the trail head. I had my 7 yr. old with me and he thought it was pretty cool that he could see that far into my leg. The stitches sucked but the big toe still hurts and its been 3 months.

    Keep dreaming Superman
now you're just getting to ridiculous extremes since your first post was wrong. may i present to you the case of Phineas Gage:

the human body was indeed designed to heal itself. did you think otherwise? hear about the guy last month who survived a 47 story fall from a new york building? well, he had medical help but still...
ever watch those shows along the lines of "world's craziest accidents" where people survive getting impaled with 4x4" pieces of wood or stabbed in the skull with a kitchen knife or shot in the head with a pneumatic nail gun? it happens, they survive. and why? well, because modern medicine and treatment rocks, but also becase the human body was designed to heal itself.

    AHA

    ps,
rad cuts...can't believe they didn't need stitches. can't wait to see the scars. will wear pads in the future, as my shins already have enough scars!

No medical help involved in my point.

so you disagree that the human body was designed to heal itself, and think that the healing of such extreme cases is due entirely to medical attention? how much do you think medical intervention had to do with Gage's survival of a 3 foot long, 1.25" diameter piece of iron through his brain in 1848?

not that any of our examples have much to do with the fact that the OP's wounds, large though they may be, will heal themselves.

go find those instead of stitches ..

True that. Superglue is used on the race horse tracks as well. It's very, very good for closing wounds. But, as recommended - it MUST be cleaned well first - like with peroxide.
