    Oh crap, another Socom build...

Just built up, nothing but parking lot tests to set the sag. Feels like it's going to be a perfect compliment to my SS. Gonna take her out tonight and thrash her good. I can hardly remember a time that I did't have an Intense in the stable and each time I build a new one up , I'm reminded why that is.

37.8 lbs on my Ultimate Digi scale as she sits with UST DH casing tires.

Note the new Corsair pedals, very similar to pedals that I've used in the past with some promising enhancements. Grippy as hell!

Ti spring on the way once it's sorted but I do dig the all black in the particular instance. Note the removal of the blue from the Fox stickers on the '09 40. Kinda nice to see a change there and the blue on the frame is enough.

    Nice!

Great looking ride. The works blue is sweet and I'm loving the white 40's.

Good work!! Loving the works blue!

I keep looking at Socoms, and trying to work out why they look slightly better than my SS when they are almost identical frame-wise. And now i realise - i don't like the decals on my SS, i prefer the Downtube Intense decal, and the TT Bike name. The SS decals are a bit rubbish - Custom Decals here we come!!!

Yep, the new 823's are a little overkill but a few people tore them up back in '05 so the redesigned them.

They'll hold up fine though right?
They're laced up to Hope Pro 2s and DT Swiss Competition Spokes with brass nips, so it's not a "skimped" build by any means.

coiler8 - This is my 2nd set of the first gen 823's. I never did knock the first set out of true, even with several Whistler/Shore/Diablo/Snowshoe/etc trips under my belt. I usually weigh between 165 and 175 ready to ride.

eb - Dude, I am such a weight weenie! I can't help it, it's some sort of addiction. I'll prob have this one with me on my big resort trips this year. Hard decision though since the SS jumps sooo good.

yeah sorry, wrote it wrong. 2.66 inches of travel per inch of shock stroke.

ok but doesnt the vpp modify the ratio as the travel soaks up?

Yeah, that's just an average ratio. It's not just VPP that does this, you can change the leverage ratio throughout the travel of just about any design. With complex linkages like VPP, the designers can make all kinds of tweaks to change the suspension characteristics as the suspension cycles.
