i don't know, like 51 hp. i haven't had it dynoed yet. the speedometer goes up to 85 mph though, so it's prolly pretty fast. i'm sure it'll bury the needle.

i'm prolly gonna drop a turbo deisel in it and drop it an inch with some neuspeed springs and bilstien shocks. get a euro bumper and drop like 75 lbs in front and rear bumper weight. hunt down some gti wheels at junk yard and git sum stress and sway bars too. it'll handle like a dream.

it was a funny story that I thought EIO would keep his mouth shut.....we swerved to avoid a squirrel...it was only about 80 feet down and it was a fun, bumby descent...as we were going down I said to EIO....no problem we will just drive out.......we will be all right .....then all of a sudden my luck changed...... we hit some loose dirt and then this tree came out and hit us....the only tree in the whole area.....it was like a powerful, space age magnet

Turns out that five years of not mountain biking, really makes one strive to get back to it.

    thanks.
i got it from a friend of a friend who was fed up and had no money to fix it. about 6 months ago, i offered him $300 for it, and he said no way. two weeks ago he called and said if i wanted it, it was mine for free. so i went up to monterey last weekend and claimed it.

Didn't those cars also come with a rotary engine option?

BTW, you wouldn't believe how cheap it is to pimp out those engines for more power. You can really crank up the intake PSI A LOT by adding a larger turbo.

Take a look on the web, engines and parts are super ass stinking dirt dirty low cheap.

better just leave it stock...if you lower it you will kill the suspension when you shuttle. Also you put wear in other areas and your tires will wear faster and you will have to re-align it...not worth it IMO

yah, your right. i'll roll it stock for a while. if anything, i might get some gti wheels from a junk yard, cheap way to improve handling and looks.
it's even got these cheezy chrome bed rails that bolt onto the sides for protection and tie-down capabilities.

That ride looks sweet. I was thinking of something much more run down when you said you were getting it for free. Did you end up towing it down with Brady?
How many bikes do you think you can get in the back?

    hey thanks.
we didn't tow it. it's fixed now, so all i have to do is drive it back down south.
it should be able to haul at least 4 bikes, but i think SMT has the right perspective: how much weight can it haul. i'm sure it's gonna be pretty weaksauce. as long as it's faster than the roadies, i'm stoked.

yah you can get lowering kits anywhere. That was an old old project. and yes it WAS fast.

I've got a Mk2 16v now, just finnished swapping a 2.0 into it with cams. suspension is next on the to-do list before I can start whoopin ass at the auto-x
