    My new '05 Kona Stinky

I picked up my new '05 Kona Stinky today. I haven't had much time to ride it yet but so far its awesome. Heres a quick overview.

I headed up one of my local trails close by house. Its nothing much, pretty smooth, not to steep. I was surprised at how well it did climb, I didn't experience any bob, and it seemed that the only thing holding it back was its weight. I got about 3/4 of the way to the top when I decided to turn around. Here comes the fun part. It seemed as if it was on rails, I could speed into turns without any washout or anything.I found my self trying to make jumps out of every obstacle I could find, and the suspension seemed to eat it all up.

After that I made my way home and rode around on my little homemade freeriding course, the bike is balanced extremely well, I found my self flying through parts that I once stuggled to stay on.

Anyways, so far I really like it. I'm heading up to n* and downieville this weekend so I can try out the dreaded d.o.t. on some rougher stuff. I'll be sure to give you guys an update then.

Heres some pictures (sorry about the crappy quality).

I think I just got really lucky. I walked into the bike shop not really planning on buying a 2005, trying to save some money by going with the 2004 but Mike down at sierra cycling (a awesome bike shop by the way, I suggest stopping by there if you're in the area) convinced me to go with a '05 and placed the order that day and said he would try as hard as he could to get on the first shipment and I guess he succeded.

that was a really song sentence

wow, you've got an awesome back yard. Are all those pictures of the same stunt. If not, the second shot looks like it would be a fun drop.

Bout time Kona ditched the ugly ass paint jobs.

The reflector pedals are quite pimpin' too.

    Nice ride.

I wasn't really fond of the drab green that they used at first either, but its starting to grow on me. It kinda gives it the "I dont care, I'm bad ass" look I guess

Oh, and about the pedals and relfectors, you never know when you might run into a unsuspecting car on the downhill track

im guessing its gonna be the same, just a lil bit stiffer due to the 20mm axle

I was looking at a 2004 stinky at my LBS and can get it for $1,300. I'm not worried about a little extra cash for a 2005, but what would make me shell out the money for the 2005. What are the differences in the two bikes. That is a killer bike, how does it jump ?
    Thanks JJ

I believe the only major difference is the 2005's increased the travel from 6 inches to 7 in front and back, and the rear fox vanilla r shock was replaced with a fox dhx 3.0 (more tuneabiltiy I believe).

Im sure theres some other smaller differences but those are the biggest.

oh yeah, and its a great jumper so far. I havent really taken it off any big jumps or dirt jumps, and the biggest drop has only been around 4-5 feet. but from what I can tell is it seems really light in the air, and easy to maneuver. I'm waiting for this weekend to take it off some bigger stuff ( only 2 more days to n* and downieville!)

took a couple more pics, now thats shes starting to get broken in.

    close up on the dhx

Looks sweet, but you should actualy put it to use, dont roll off that ladder. Hit it with speed and gap off of it. Have fun and nice bike.
