    lever compatibiltiy: HFX-9 to Mag?

So my Hfx-9's have been giving me problems now for way too long and I just found the seal under the jam-nut for the master cylinder has tore in half. This explains why I've been having to bleed it every 4 to 5 rides!
I just threw $450.00 into my rig, so I'm on a super tight budget... the question is can I replace the whole lever with a HFX-mag lever and just keep everything else the same? (hose, caliper, etc)

    I don't think so...

Hard to remember, but I beleive the levers on the HFX I had
were different from the ones on the Mags I have now.The
aftermarket levers I was looking at seemed to be offered in
different sets for the two as well.Hope this helps

Yea you can. The HFX-9 and Mag calipers are the same and the levers are interchangeable.

Yep you can get it to work. The calipers are both the G2 calipers most likely and you can just swap out the whole lever assembly. I've even used aftermarket levers for Mags on both HFX9s and Mags. Just requires drilling not even a mm off of the one for the hfx9 and adding some extra shimming on it when installing it. Easily done in half an hour.

    is making a comeback.

Turns out that five years of not mountain biking, really makes one strive to get back to it.

Yes. They attach to the hose differently, so if you have the whole lever assembly and correct fittings you'll have no problem replacing your HFX-9 lever/master cyl with a Mag. FWIW you'll get more power from the Mag, but I find they are a bit on/off compared to the 9. Get the manual online from Hayes' website and it describes the different fittings you need for the two master cyls.

    Thanks guys. great info here.
Basicly... yes I can repalce w/ a mag but I need a different fitting for the hose to attach to the master cylinder.

Another consideration: Is it possible to just replace the faulty seal? The only reason why I ask is b/c I'd prefer a cheaper temporary fix while I save and wait for the El Caminos to become available.
BTW, when will they be on the market?
