How long can you go without a bike?

I just dropped my bike off at the shop.It needs a tune up and the front brake is mesed up.It only brakes at half power.I dropped it off yesterday and I already am getting fidgety.I am watching NDW 8 like crazy (it is awesome)but that makes it worse. I cant imagine what guys do when they cant ride for ovewr a week. I wont get it back until monday.
So how long can you go without bi,ing?

Sold my old steed and there is lots of southern UT rides in my area... Virgin, Moab, Hanksville, and Greenriver. I've been off for 2months and not looking to by till March. You've got it easy

But to answer your question I have been off for months at a time and it has killed me every time. Once for a broken wrist. Once for an internship to DC. Once because I was getting married.

    You guys are spaz kids.

I've been without a rideable bike since August. I've been building the DHR since. I don't have the money right now to complete it, I need those checks to keep rolling in.

I've been out for like 2 weeks because of injuries and it sucks, but the worst is the winter when you have your bike but its snowing/raining/freezing out and riding's out of the question.

Can't ride often in the winter here. And I haven't ridden my bike while I was at college. And I didn't get to ride often during the summer because I was pulling 60 hours a week.

Same, only in NY. Skiing almost makes it bearable. Almost. I'll usually get in a couple of XC rides on packed snowmobile trails, which are a lot of fun if conditions are right.

Well being in Sunny California I don't really have too many days when I can't ride. I do sporadically shun bikes in general and pick up the worlds 2nd best sport... rock climbing. But thats usually every couple years.

Hell even my work expects that I'm going to ride every day... here the entire company shuts down so everyone can ride.

I don't know what you're trying to say... I'm not sure if it's the terrible spelling or the terrible grammar...

And I'm sorry... but I fail to see the correlation between being a spaz and not having a bike.

"if you really want to ride then you will" Not true.

What now? I'm sorry... I still can't understand you. No... actually the spelling and grammar corrections are among the first things I bring up. It's not part of flaming... and I am not trying to flame. You're the one being aggressive.

So how exactly am I stupid? Because I pointed out your errors?

Wow... you dropped out in eighth grade... good for you. I can ride a bike, speak English, AND function as a unit of society. I don't think I've ever said to go study. But whatever.

    Kona4lyf,

Im not shure if you should be riding while you have a broken wrist, or dislocated shoulder injury. If you do, you just gonna fukc yourself up even more and spend more time on your feet.

Also, if you dont have cash to spend, like many of us students,

well...you dont have cash to spend.

If you can find a post where I told somebody to go study in all seriousness, then I'll admit that you're right. But... there are none. I have told people to learn how to properly communicate. If English isn't your first language, then sorry. I typically don't poke at the spelling or grammar of those people who don't speak English fluently, nor do I expect perfection (mine is not). But English is the national language of Australia, is it not?

i cant usually go more than a day or two without biking.....but im going to have to try to last longer than that.....my current wheelset has kept on breaking spokes, and i finally broke down and bought a new one.....but i cant ride on my current wheelset (3 broken spokes now.....its so out of true, its actually just about rubbing the frame) and im not going to waste more $$ to have the spokes replaced when im getting a new wheelset in soon..............

    For me:
It's been over a month mostly due to a hectic Holiday schedule with the fam and a little to do with the weather

For the OP: You'd do yourself a huge favor and get riding alot quicker if you learned some brake bleeding/bike mechanic skills!

I blown my new 08' ROCO RC and i have to take it in, and if anyone else has dealt with Marz....they take forever, i most likely am going to say i want a new one, not a repair. that way i get it back soon, Oh and they "pros" at preformance that set my bike up did a shitty job. They didnt set up my chain guide right, my brakes were not centered, derailler not tuned right, handle bars setup wrong, and many other problems. so im taking it back so they can give me the parts and then im taking it to Downhill Zone so they can do it right.

Downtime from the bike, BECAUSE of the bike is a bitc*. But, fortunately I have 3 bikes, 2 FS and a HT, so there is never downtime from actually riding, just riding a particular bike. However, when one of the bikes are down, it drives me nuts. I do not know why, but I try my damdest to get the bike running asap. So OP, I can feel your pain, but you are in a much worse position, for that I am sorry. If you lived near me, I would for sure let you borrow one.

But,.. downtime from the bike due to your personal schedule or weather is a different story. It kills me to not be "able" to ride my bike because of what is going on. I have only rode a few times in the past month (december), and it sucks.... I watch videos and it makes it worse.... There are times when I can not ride because it gets dark and too cold, that I get on the hardtail and pedal circles around in the garage....just to be on the bike. Bike are the sh*t!

Ehh,.. and don't take the criticism from this forum to heart, people do not like to hear of other peoples problems,... people never think you issues are as bad as theirs,.... I say to each their own... Ride on brotha!, when you get it fixed......

College Education > Everything Else in my Life.

    Sorry, that's how it goes.

Work Ethic? I spend all my work ethic at College. I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but education, at least to me, is incredibly important. I value my college education more than pretty much everything else in my life, save for family.

    Sorry for the emo moment.

I lost my bike in August, now I am walking around and doing a lot more driving (and eating). 5 months of no riding SUCK with a capital S.

and after I got dengue fever, the doctor told me to get more exercise.

Walking around is good, but now its getting really old.
