When I was 14 I started working after school, weekends, and summer. Played all sports (football, basktetball, baseball, track and field) in high school at the same time. Sometimes I had to get up at 4am to feed cattle at a ranch, or go in at 11pm to mop and wax floors in a restaurant. Still got a 3.98gpa and a scholarship to college as well.

Other than selling your organs on E-Bay (Oh wait!, that is illegal) it sounds like a job is the only option.

You could make it easier by picking a less expensive bike. A Stinky DL will do 90% of what a Primo will do for less than 2/3rds the price. Even then $2900 is a big chunk of change for anyone without a job.

    Idea!

well my personal suggestion/question...why do you need a stinky primo? Unless you're doing some crazy freeride/downhill/racing couldn't the stinky deluxe suit you as well at nearly half the price? I'm definitely not trying to discourage you or anything, just be sure you're being honest with yourself about your needs/ability. If you are and a stinky primo's what you need then congrats and go for it.

Far as money...well...what do you like to do? If you really can't get a job, get your lawnmower out and start mowing lawns. You can find something if you try. Just print out a picture of the bike and carry it with you, it'll motivate you

try to find jobs you can do for neighbors, friends, family etc... also sell whatever you can on craigslist or ebay. if you want the primo go for it, but the deelux will do almost as well for a much lower price.

Can you donate plasma at that age?

If you are good with computers, electronics, ipods start selling your services to older adults who dont **** about technology. I know kids who make money off transfering music to someones ipods, setting up easy wireless networks within a home, and helping someone use their cell phone, setting up voicemail, etc.

You could get a job. There is really not much else that you would be able to do and make enough money.

Also, Stinky's aren't the best bikes, you could do better to get something used for this past year and just ride that, it would probably be better than a Stinky. (i.e. a V10)

well since you've convinced yourself you can't get a job (which you can) i think your options are
    1 rob a bank
    2 prostitution
    3 become a pool hustler
4 sell alot of sh!t on craigslist and ebay
5 find someone with a stinky primo, beat the sh!t out of them and take it

it's not football season, get a job.

and when it is football season, keep the job. it's not like high school academics and athletics are so demanding that you only have time for school and football.

Not only will you make money, you'll get the bike at a discount. Shiggy's comments also make a lot of sense. Don't overextend yourself on the purchase. Just because you have your heart set on a particular bike doesn't mean there's not a less expensive alternative that will be suitable to your riding needs.

I know, I sound like an old man. Well, if the shoe fits.

Best wishes in getting the $$ together for a ride.

Start your own business. Mow lawns, scoop snow, pull weeds, paint, windows, odd jobs, ect. Just go around the neighborhood and ask if anyone has any odd jobs.

I use to detail cars. I charged $100-150 a car and did 64 cars in one summer.

Go after a shop rat position.

Get a job as a shop runner. It solves two issues.

    1. Lack of funds
    2. Discounts when you do need a bike/components

You're in luck. I just got some email from someone in Nigeria who offered me $1.5 million from a wealthy man who died in a plane crash.

Let me know if you want his email.

    Smile Hey

Hey. I am in Business major and there is a way you can make money. Read about stock market online and learn something. Then look for a perfect time to buy a stock and sell it when you feel it is just about to plunge. It is not as hard as people say it is.

Of course there is a risk, but hey, "The ones that never take risks, never drink champagne"

Good luck! And yes, drill a hole in your parents head about the bike!

Im 24 and make $16000 a month sellin drugs on the corner . seriously dude, either suck up to your parents or get a JOB...there is no magical skeem to money unless your smart or your good at scamming. since i take it your a male, you cant prostitute yourself, but if your goodlooking enough, you might be able to get with a loser girl(or guy if you roll like that), you can skim them for small change every day and maybe save enough money for a decent hard tail. if that doesnt work out, you can deff check out NYC and whore yourself to the crackheads deep in the southbronx prison style. dont bite, or they will knock out your teeth . anyway...maybe you can plant a money tree. plant one for me too cause im also broke from buying so many bling bike parts.

hang otu downtown till you find some crack dealers, ask them if they got police on their back, and possibly need a drug mule.

if your not into crime, possibly look at this. if you are looking into buying a bike as fancy and expensive as the stinky primo, and you think you need it, then you shodul decide wether football is more important to you then biking.

i personally dont feel bad for you, cause i have been work my ass of to be abel to afford biking ( im 15) and i dont really do anythign other than bike.

Sounds like most of the guys here, inlcuding myself, here worked their butts off for their toys. I'm still piecing together my second bike and I started in June, its been six months now and it's still not quite together because money goes to other priorities like caring for my family, so patience is paramount. Yeah, it's driving me crazy, but that's life. Need to make do with what we've been given and work hard. Okay, off my soapbox now...

Unless you've got loaded parents where their money grows off of trees you're only option is working and if you hate working you need to lower your goal of getting a Stinky Primo and get something less expensive, so you can work less. Fortunately, there are plenty of other great alternatives out there and I'm sure the guys in the forum can point them to you. I'm not a FR/DH kind of guy, just yet.

Jobs? How about a cashier or bagger at a grocery store? Fast food of course, that was my second job. Do I hear a Kinko's floorman? Yard work? How about waiting tables? Let's face it, you're not going to be hired to do computer work or work in a skilled profession unless you have the proper training, so go for what you can do already. I'm sure there a lot of jobs in the customer service category.

Best of luck to you. Let's see that bike once you get it.

To add to what Shiggy said, look for used. I know there is that good feeling you get when you get that shiny brand new bike, but buying used will save you money. The fact is...its a mountain bike. Saving you money for a few dings and scratches you would put on it in proabobly one ride or more is worth the savings.

Take your time and look. Research can land you a un-believable deal!

nope its a two room basment.... and i consider my self lucky there are people just down the road camping in trailers paying 2000 a month to rent the lot and power hook up. a good apartment around here costs about 2200 a month. and there is a huge shortage of apartments and housing. house cost between 300 000 all the way to 800 000 and up. its f ing expensive to live here. (fort mc murray alberta) i mean we have the world second largest oil patch and gas prices r out of this world. As we put it were North americas richest poorest city. we can make up to 40$ an hour strate time and still just barly get by.

As we put it were North americas richest poorest city. we can make up to 40$ an hour strate time and still just barly get by.
    it realy sux.

Damn...you should move! just live in your car for like a few months and make the same money, then you can buy a house anywhere you want. It's the perfect plan...although alberta is beautiful, I've been there before, so I doubt you'd even want to.

id move closer to the alberta Bc border. then i could day trip wistler.

with in a year or two i might be moving to the states with my better half. she wants to get a job there as a music instrument repair tec. (suposedly they are in high demand there) Im a welder right now but im planing to open my own bike shop/ and maybe a music intrument repair shop too.... but i don't know how well id do at that in the states. i mean there are tons of bike shops there. i know ill open up a Tim hortons down there even tho IMO krispy cream doughnuts are 100000000 times better.

im 16 to and want a new bike. i got a total of $1300 and my dad won't let me spend $1000 on it to buy a cannondale someone here on mtbr wants to sell me. looks like i'll be racing my heavy a$$ hardrock pro for the 06 seaons.... oh well i would be able to buy it if i had a job, but i barley have time to ride so a job is out of the question. I play music many hours aday preparing for music college so its not like i'm being lazy and not getting a job though. if biking is important enough to you that you want that expensive of a bike...give up sports where you jump around on a bouch of guys and get a job and ride. I saved up money mowing yards and raking yards, and shoveling driveways so that i could buy a 1500 dirtbike when i was in the 8th grade....i did take me 2 years, but come on...the only reason you don't have it is because you dont want it enough to work for it.
