It is indeed quite fast. Mine stays mounted 70% of the time. What body is it on?

You are going to love it.

That is my primary lens for MTB pictures. It is fast and just the right lenght for action pictures. I would suggest a UV / haze filter to help preserve the lens from the dust and accidental fingerprints.

BTW: you have a great website at smugmug. If you going to the Nationals, I'll see you there.

    Regards
    Rick

We have a couple 20 Ds. The 1D MARK II will be in the next couple of years!!!!!! Hope this will work with other 3 lenses we have!!!!!! Should fill the void the longer lens creates when running 2 cameras sometimes you need the short lens!

We have a 70-200 IS USM 2.8 it is nice! If you are gonna get the F4 consider the 100-400 we also have one of those and it is really good also. Not as fast as the 70-200 but much stronger obviousley!!!!

Yeah BOB I am gonna use this to get the shot of you dropping the 8' boulder and kicking the bike 90 degrees to stay on the trail at the bottom of that one trail. I will pin it and catch all the carnage!!!!!!

You generally don't want to pan with IS turned on as it confuses the hell out of the IS mechanism. Some lenses have a mode2 IS which helps with panning.

Turn it off while using a tripod as well.

Nice lens, I want something on the low end. I have the 70-200 2.8, I think I would go for the 16-35 2.8 over the 24-70

It seems really short to me, but again I have not had the ability to get an official MEDIA PASS yet! So standing on the inside of a berm at like 24, the whole bike should fit in nicely I think?
