    Going to Downieville.........

And I've never been. Which bike should I take, the DHR or the 5 Spot?

Taking both either way as we have a Northstar day planned as well but I'm just not totally sure what would be best for Downieville.

5 Spot. Some trails are more or less downhill, but there are some pedally ones. The DHR is overkill.

bring the 5 spot...a big bike sucks on that trail...a lot of fun but there are a lot of pedally flat sections...managable but it wears you out on a big bike

5 spot would be better for downieville. Like the others said dhr would be overkill for Downieville. You'll see mostly 140mm to 160mm bikes.

I ride my 2002 DHR at Dville all the time. (Or I use to)

If you want to pedal, sure 5 spot. But hauling on a DH rig is damn fun!

But hauling ass on a 150mm travel bike past DH rigs is even more fun.

Thanks guys. I'll bring the 5 Spot and save the DHR for Northstar.

I did that same trip last year and took both my trail bike and my downhill bike. One of the most fun trips ever. Use your 5 Spot in Downieville. Then enjoy Northstar on the big bike. Have fun!

The DH will be more fun on the DHR, but the small amount of uphill will suck... I would still go for the DHR, uphill sucks no matter what imho.

Northstar wasn't running lifts so it was a total fail. Found some other DH trails to try and save the day but it just wasn't the same.
