That first vid has some pretty gnarly sounds. The slow-mo bike tumble sounds like a load of metal tubing rolling down a hill in a barrel.

The bike is a Nicolai DH. The transmission is a Rohloff 14-spd internal geared hub (http://www.rohloffusa.com) which usually are built into a rear wheel. Basically, the way mid-mount hub bikes work is to drive the input shaft (where the cog would go if the hub were built into a wheel) from the cranks and then connect another cog to the hub's body (where the spokes would normally connect) which then uses a chain to transfer to the rear wheel. The rear hub is a fixed gear, i.e., it doesn't freewheel, so as long as you're rolling, the chain is moving and the mid-mount hub is freewheeling. They're cool designs, albeit complicated. In many cases they can reduce unsprung weight which can improve suspension action and eliminate most of the problems Rohloffs have when built into rear wheels on DH & FR bikes.
