    Fully or Trials...

i have a santa cruz that i have just put 1000 dollars worth of upgrades into. i am 120 pounds and 5'6. i was thinking that instead of buying a dirtbag, i could by my friends used echo team. i have really wanted to get into trials. and i could get a stinky or dirtbag later. since i live in IL and its sorta flat and im 120 pounds, i could handle drops on my hardtail untill i get the money for a fully. do u think i should go for my friends evho for 600 or go for a fully?

def get the echo. riding trials will make you such a better rider. trials is about skill, not just hucking yourself off stupid big things. if you have a good internt connection, download some of the videos from echobikes.

Get the Echo. Echos are the shizzy. How tall are you? I am 5'11. I ride the long (1033MM) but if you are under 5'7, the short (1003MM) would be a better choice. Once you get into trials, forget the fully. You won't ride it again. Actually, you won't ride any non-trials bike anymore . I know I don't ride my Fly or 4130 anymore . I got addicted to the lightness and snappy responsiveness of a trials bike, so it's gross to ride a fully now (unless on DH trails).
EDIT: What parts spec does your friend's Echo have? $600 sounds like a good deal.

im 5'6 and im not sure bout the components, but i am pretty sure it is all the 2004 stock but he built up the rear wheel so its like a pro wheel. he is a incredible rider. he just got the koxx level boss frame and built it up with 2600 of components.

definitely get a component list and check out the rims for cracks or flatspots. Also, make sure the rear pads have life left in them. Unless the Koxx is an XTP, it's really not that much of an improvement over the Echo Team. I would also check to see that it has a fast engagement freewheel/hub. I have a King which is the ideal set up. If his bike does not have that, make sure it at least has an ACS freewheel. It's easy to tell since ACS freewheels click a lot and sound like something is loose.

Ehh, thats a tough one...I have a trials bike, and a XP (5" fully). Trials is great but from what downhilling I have done, I am greatly desiring a downhill bike....In short get them both, but I would pick trials first to better your bike handling skills.

that makes sense... no real reason to switch from an echo team mod.

doesnt matter, what does is that he is selling his echo. i would get a dh bike, as i planned, but i live in IL and its flat. its also hard to downhill in Chicago City unless u drive a few hours

the echo freewheel dosent have the greatest track record. yo uwill probably eventually want to get a white industries or acs. im pretty sure the echo rims are alex. it would be a great bike to start with. once you really get into trial, you will eventually probably want to replace the cranks and BB. i definitly say gor the the echo. especially i fyou dont live at the bottm of a ski resort, you will have soo much more fun on it than a DH bike. like someone mentioned earlier, once you get into trials, you wont want to ride a suspension bike.

    bringing this thread back up

Did you get the echo? Are you happy with your decision? I have a choice between getting an azonic saber frame 5-6" travel or a planet x zebdi. The saber is a frame and the zebdi is complete. if i get the saber i wont be able to get a trials bike for at least a year. I live in indiana which is also pretty flat not much freeride. Should i get the zebdi?
