    This is friggen rad

OK - totally not biking related and hopefully it hasn't been posted before, but this video has been making the rounds on the E-mail list over the past week:

If you haven't seen it, check it out. Hugely sick - ski gliding down the Eiger.

insane... off the wall... man, hard to tell how far he was over some of those little ridges, but had me crappin' my pants just watching a 4" vid on this computer...

love to go there just for the scenery, but don't think I'd be tryin' that...

I guess those were his rock boards?

Saw a show last weekend showing a bunch of total nutcases base jumping off the Eiger. The guy featured and interviewed was a local shark dive tour entrepreneur. Frikkin adrenaline junkies like the rest of us, just to a far greater degree.

I'd like to try that sometime. Certainly on some less rocky terrain at first.

I was glad to see he has some POS skis on. Wasn't wrecking anything nice.

This sport is called Speed-Flying (or sometimes Speed-Gliding). I met one of the originators of it last year in Simplon Pass, Switzerland. I started skydiving just to be able to do this sport. Basically, you need either a skydiving or Paragliding certification just to get started. My biggest problem is that I am a snowboarder, so I've had to start over on skis. Hopefully I have gotten to get into this by the end of the ski season this year. On the expert canopies, speeds well over 100kmh are normal.

Ive done that before without skis. They have events called Para-Skis where you jump out of a helicopter at a ski resort and skim along the mountain through vertical polls. I almost got killed at one too.

Like those nutbars that do "Mountain Swooping." But Mountain swooping just seems nuts. High risk maneuvers under canopy with no margin for error. The cool thing about speed flying is that it requires no plane or helo. Just a place with snow and a ski lift. Plus, you go fast, but not so fas that you are done it 8 seconds.
