    DHS vs. El Jefe

    Which one and why?

Manipoop dies without even riding it!!! I give up. 150lbs, 5.8", technical trails, some DH, 12ft drops maximum. Which will suit me better? Only considering El Jefe because heard good things about them and it's 100$ cheaper than DHS. Or is Avalanche unbeatable and I should get one no matter what?

    Thanks!

Avalanche really is quality stuff, probably the one thing i love about it the most is never having to play with the adjustment. Since craig valves it for your weight and riding style i found myself only playing with the adjustment during the first ride and since then ive never had to touch it, and i wont have to touch it for a whole year when i have to send it back to be serviced. You can buy the el jefe which is similar to an avalanche, or you can have the real deal, personally, when your within a 100 bucks of buying an avy, the picture should be clear, just spend the extra and get the real thing. Good luck.

Lucky13, what the fu(k happened to your swinger? Oh btw, its 8.75x2.75 isn't it? Since you ended up with the 8" plates? If so...and its blown...could I get it cheap off of you?
    Let me know.

Turns out that five years of not mountain biking, really makes one strive to get back to it.

    dead

It is 9.0 x 2.75. I accidently stripped compression knob, sent it back to Manitou. Got it back last nite, installed, left my driveway and it leaked out. I didn't even push on it or anything. Hoping to get a refund or they're fixing it.

hmmmm.... a fully custom Avy DHS or an off the shelf stratos.........

shouldn't be that hard of a decision.

well the stratos is set up from the shop to all be the same damping regardless of who rides it or what bike it is on...(off the shelf)

the avy is valved to your liking, for your weight, your riding style and your bike......(fully custom) it will ride better than 10 el jefe's combined

    according to the go-ride site.....
the Avy DHS is $450 without the compression adjuster or $550 with... (maybe you should call Go-Ride to talk about the Avy if you can)
and the El Jefe Jr. is $350 and the El Jefe Sr. is $450

(edit: after looking back, it seems you already know this info regarding the stratos)

what are you in jail or something? 2 calls a week?? (are you not in the states?)

    Avalanche contact

    http://www.avalanchedownhillracing.com/

e-mail Craig, they sell direct. The website shows all DHS shocks now come with compression adjustment. So your looking at 550 well spent dollars!

no, but kind of, im in Iraq, look at the dh/fr photo album, you'll see me with my DCU standing on top of the base sign..

i emailed craig at avalanche and he said i needed a 3.5 x 9.0 with 1/2 inch reduced stroke with a 550 lb spring... and it goes for $600.00
    the bike company said i needed a 10" e2e and 3"stroke..

The guys at stratos told me they are custom valved to rider and bike...? I don't think you could go wrong with either shock.

Dude.. 10 el jefe's.. You could huck off the Sears Tower.

10 jefes x 3" stroke = 30" assuming a 1:1 travel ratio. You should suggest this to Bender. Maybe he could duct tape two super monsters together on the front to even things out.

There there. The dorks of the world are important. Otherwise, where would we find out that flame paintjobs really did go out in the 80's?
