    28's can run most anything.

Sure, 30's and bigger will spread the tire's footprint more effectively, but 28's aren't exactly XC rims. I've run a giant Mich 2.8DH on a 28 with no problems. Usually the bigger issue is how big a tire can your fork or seat stays allow when choosing a big DH tire.

I'm not really looking to put the biggest tire I can on the rim...I'm still testing the dh waters in the blue ridge mountains...what would be the thinnest I can go up to the largest, just considering the rim, not the frame.....thanks again

My D321's are 28mm and run 2.5's w/ no problem. In the review section someone says they run 3.0s on them.

Mavics website lists recommended pressure ranges for tires starting w/ 1.0 (and this is for the 28mm 321s). -But I can't imagine you wanna run something that skinny.

W/o more info, I'm sure you're ok for anything 1.5 to 3.0 (depending on your fork and frame for the upper limit). This is just an educated guess. Goto the manufacs website for better info. If they don't post it, email 'em.

I think you might be right. My old XC rims were 28 and the 321 are wider if my shoddy memory is correct. I wasn't sure about the exact measurements of the 321s so I went to Mavic's website before I posted.

If you surf to the tab specifically for the Mavic 321 you'll find the following....
"28 mm wide Cross Mountain rim for disc brakes only"

So if I goofed with the size its only because Mavic did too.

run some 2.25 to 3.0 if you want.

If you weigh under 190 I would run some 2.5's

I think thats the XM321, I've got 2.5" intense tyres on those with no problems though.
