Decided: only custom built wheels for me.

I found that Speedgoat can build me a pair of wheels exaclly like I want for what appears to be a labor cost of $15 per wheel. Fine by me. Fantastic. They have everything; right down to the exact rim tape I want.

First total wheel build took me at least 1/2 a day, and I couldn't get it quite perfect. OK, all day for a pretty good job on a wheel. Right now I have back trouble and sitting up to a wheel truing stand all day sounds like torture. Walking and standing are easier on my back than sitting, so I hope bike riding doesn't hurt too much. 5 inches of Romic travel should help.

    The wheels
    Ta Dah:
Mavic XM 321 I just don't think I need more rim than that
Deore 525 I will convert them to 9/10mm bolt on
    32 black 14g swiss spokes
    black brass nipples
    ROX Superdupe 19mm rim tape

I don't do big jumps and drop offs, just ski area DH trails. (Angel Fire NM) or, at least I used to. Yeah, I do take the black diamond xc DH which goes strait down through the trees, over rocks, left, right, left, etc. Just a little bit crazy sick. This will have to be a cross country bike too, so I'm not getting the heaviest rim Mavic makes.

So, what do you think of those wheels?

    Happy me :)

So I can roll on the 321s and still hang out here. Great.

I should be able to post wheel porn in about 3 weeks.
