    back yard dirt jumps

I bought the pump track book off of www.leelikesbikes.com and built a pretty sweet pump track. I am now trying to build some jumps into the mix. I built a 3' tall 4' long table top and also a 8 foot gap off the back of one of the burms. The problem I am having is that I don't know what speeds are needed to clear the gap. I can barely reach 15mph because of the size of my yard... if I hit the table top at that speed I can usually clear it. My jumping technique is no where near refined. If it was would 15mph get me over the 8 footer? What techniques will get me farther without going faster? I can't build a drop in. Any pointers on jump building and jumping far and high are what I am looking for.

You could build the jumps progressively bigger, with tall steep landings. Then, you learn to pump the landings to get more speed as you go through the sets. If each set gets a foot or two taller and a foot or two longer, you'll be hitting bigger dubs in no time with the right amount of speed.
