    Am I Crazy?

I've been running a 100x5 Thompson on my trailbike for over 2 years. The combination of a fork without compression control and longer stem have lead to going over the bars several times on technical steeps. I thought this was because of my skills. I now think that with some compression control, via my new Pike!, and a shorter stem I might not go over so much.

I also think I might get that nimble, BMX, throw-the-bike-around, feeling I haven't been able to achieve to date. I feel like when the trail gets technical and bouncy, I'm not able to flick the bike around like I would like. I've been lifting a bit lately and that seems to help, but not like I'd really like.

I went to SuperGo to get a DH/Freeride style stem and ended up getting this one. At $10 and ~170 grams it was hard to beat. The other DH/Freeride style were well over 250 grams.

So I ask, am I crazy for using this new stem?

To me, it seems like it will be hard to bend or break a stem this short, (50x6)?

Should something like this hold up to aggressive trailriding and very light freeriding?

    Smile crazy?

that steer tube looks like if it met with a certain part of your body it wouldnt be nice . i didnt cut mine either but i put the spacer under the stem and i put a pad made by roach i think if your stem was higher you could sit further back off your seat.

i agree keep an eye on the 2-bolt stem. if your just trail riding no prob but djing and such will bring a quick end to that bar stem combo.

    Cut It

I atually did cut the stearer tube. I wanted to leave some extra tube incase I wanted to resell the fork in the future. I cut an older fork way too much and have not been able to sell it.

My original set up was with the stem in the middle of the two spacers. I think I will move it back into the middle, rather than at the bottom.

Thanks for the advice on the two bolt stem combo. I wouldn't have thought about that. I think I will use this set up for a few months to see how I like it. Maybe try out another $10 stem a bit longer to see what that feels like. Then once I find a length I like, I'll buy a new Thompson.

PS: Shivers I don't think I'll take you up on your suggesstion.
