83mm bb, 157mm rear hub, 65mm chainline, terrible idea?

Hi, curious about whether someone here has experience with flipping a DM RaceFace chainring on an 83mm setup and 150/157 hub. That would produce a 65mm chainline, so I was wondering if shifting would be ok or suck. I am considering this setup to get enough tire clearance on a custom build I am planning but don't know if I should use a 170mm hub instead. I rather use 157mm if that chainline is not horrible. Any thoughts?

What bike are you using that can possibly have a rear hub that varies from 150 to 170?

It's a custom frame design, haven't decided on hub spacing yet, though would prefer 157mm

157 it is. Why mess with Fat bike hubs or whatever a 170mm hub is from.

It's all about chainline and clearance, the usual DH chainline is 55-56mm, whereas the one I am using, to get semi-fat clearance is 65mm, commonly recommended for 170mm hubs. I rather use 157mm so long as shifting is not horrible by the 10mm chainline displacement, especially if using a reduced 6-7 speed cassette with spacers in place of bigger cogs.

What the heck exactly are you building, intended usage and tyre size/width? I know of many `50/157 rear, 73mm BB custom builds that will run a 3" tyre, no problem, possibly a 4".
