    New question here. 1-ply tires with DH tubes or 2-ply tires with regular tubes?

    I've got an '05 ASX on the way and I'm trying to figure out how to lighten up its trail riding characteristics a bit. Tires and tubes are the easiest way to do that (and the only thing I can afford to change after paying for the bike.)

    So, what sounds like the best way to lighten things up a bit while still handling dirt jumping and some mellower DH shuttle rides?

    Run 1-ply tires with DH tubes
    or
    Run 2-ply tires with regular tubes?

    Alternately, if both of those ideas are retarded, maybe I'll just run 2-ply tires with a DH tube in back and a regular tube in the front and just suck it up and pedal harder?

    I only weigh 150 and there aren't a lot of big drops where I ride, really. Biggest I go is 8 feet to good transition.

    Take advantage of the UST wheels that you have and go tubeless. That will save you a good 2 or so pounds in rotational weight. Check out Maxxis or Michilen for tires.

    Only you can answer the question.

    How it works for you depends on your own riding style, your speed, which tires and which trails you ride. How much tire pressure you want to run is a big issue here too. Are you 150 lbs or 250 lbs?

    I'd say go for a dual-ply tire in back, single in front and "regular" tubes. Carry a spare DH tube and put that in back if you flat out. It's an ongoing process...

    But this stuff is all super subjective.

    Every rider on this board can give you a different answer.

    I personally used to run dual-ply with Nokian DH tubes. Found the rotating weight was way too much. Now I run single ply Maxxix Minion F&R with the same 1.8mm Nokian tubes. I weigh 230 lbs and don't jump a lot but ride fast.

    The Super T you have is really a very good fork. I'd take that fork over a Fox 40 or a Boxer unless i was entering a fashon contest instead of a race

    With 150lbs. 2ply and DH tubes and u'll never get a flat...
    Deal with the extra pound.. is no gonna kill u and is gonna make ur legs stronger..
