    04 P2 long frame riders

My LBS has a good deal on a 04 P2 $600. I know this is the largest frame you can get, but I was just wondering how a long frame fits riders around 5'11" to 6'.

I'm used to riding XC and wasn't sure how to fit or size a bike like this. Is there any rule of thumb on sizing this style of bike? What about stem length changes?

I plan on doing mainly street riding (stairs, drops, jumps) during the winter months.

    Any info would be helpful.

um i'm 6'1 maybe taller haven't measured myself lately. anyways i just got one (christmas present ) and i was only allowed to ride it for a couple minutes before I had to stash it in the garage. I could take it out but, i would like to think i have self control.
Anyways this is my first dirtjump/fr/urban bike . so i really don't know how im supposed to feel on it. I mean it's real comfy. If the seats all the way down my knees hit the bars when i turn but you can't do gaps seated right. and with the seat all the way up i get pretty good leg exstension so you could ride some trails.
oh and i paid 650. well 350 my parents got the rest.

and it has an xc fork whats up wit that

The 05 is a lot more money too, 600 for the 04 is incredible value. I got mine for 650 also. I replaced the fork....do that immediately it suxxxx a**. Put a z series on it, the frame can definetly handle at least 130 mm. I am 6' even and the Large fits me great i ride the seat all the way down (but who actually uses the seat on an urban/dj bike???). I also replaced the chain guide w/ and E13 SRS which is siiiick. I can't imagine a bike even close to this pimp for the 1100 i have spent ( I can make about 200 back from selling the fork and chainguide....so really around 900 and much better than the 05 anyway). After my upgrades i have a bombproof 32-33 pound hardtail that i have hit like 12 foot drops on. No problems (well i am pretty smooth)

Im 5'11 and ride an 05' P3 (long). The frame size is perfect.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, -WOW- What a ride...!!!!

I'm pretty sure that the top tube length is longer on the 05. Wonder why?

I'm 5' 11.5" (never quite made the six foot mark ) I have an 04 P2 long and i'd say its about perfect for DJ's. Not much of an urban rider but I think a short would be better for that. As far a trails go I don't think its very good for that (too small). And yes replace the fork, 04 DJIII's are cheap right now and the are strong as hell, they're heavy though and suck on trails.

Unless you are using the bike for only dirt jumps and single big hits DO NOT put a DJ fork on it, they are heavy and they blow. Once again, i am 6' and ride the long for mostly urban. It is incredibly maneuverable and flicable.

what made me stick with the short frame is that some of the jumps around my house are made for bmx bikes... it handles those pretty damn good

i love the bike but the fork is a piece of s*^t

short p.2 = feet hitting tires.

    Stem length guidelines?

You say your bike fits perfect. your exactly the same height as me.

How do you feel about the stem length (40mm)?

I got my bike, It feels cramped. but coming from XC riding I'm sure it will.

Will it just take some getting used to or should I try a longer stem (60mm)

What for guidelines should I use for getting a longer stem.

just ride it how it is, unless you are over 6 feet considerably the bike should be fine, just make sure the seat is all the way down if you are having problems

I say keep the stem, there is not a great big diffence in stem length, you will only feel it the first few rides, and then you are used to it.. It doesnt take very long to get used to it either.
