    04' GT ruckus 2.0 for Urban/trail/DJ

I am about to buy a 2004 GT ruckus 2.0 from my LBS for $550. Looks like a good deal, but will the bike hold up to Some trail, urban, and maybe getting into some smaller drops and dirt jumping. the componets are:

    Fork: Marzocchi MZ Race 100mm
Headset: 1 1/8" threadless FSA Orbit XL II
    Stem: TruVativ Holzfeller 31.8 O/S
    Handlebar: Syncros riser 31.8 O/S
Front Brake: Shimano BR-M475 mechanical disc
Rear Brake: Shimano BR-M475 mechanical disc
    Brake Levers: Shimano Alivio
    Shift Levers: Shimano Alivio
    Front Derailleur: Shimano Deore
    Rear Derailleur: Shimano Deore
    Chain: Shimano HG-72
    Crankset: TruVativ Hussefelt
    Chainwheel: 22/32 and outer Bash
    Pedals: GT CNC ALuminum
    Rims: Syncros BIG BOX
    Front Hub: Shimano HB-M475
    Rear Hub: Shimano HB-M475
Spokes: 14 ga. black stainless w/ brass nipples
    Front Tire: WTB Weirwolf 2.3
    Rear Tire: WTB weirwolf 2.3
Saddle: SDG Grand Prix custom GT RUCKUS Skull Hologram
    Seatpost: Aluminum Micro Adjust 31.6mm

it seems to be much better equiped then the Kona shred 05'. am I missing something on the shred? its seems like the shred is a good frame and maybe a better fork but shady on the components.

Also, not many people have mentioned the ruckus, any reason?

The GT is a nice ride.

Just my opinion, but I think GT just fell out of favor since the whole buyout by Pacific. There were some warranty issues that people had where the ownership wouldn't warranty and honor GT's old policies and such. Also the fact that Pacific made Walmart level bikes also turned people off. There was one more ownership change after Pacific, don't remember to who, and this is the current company that owns GT, Schwinn and Mongoose brands.

But it seems like GT and Mongoose are making a comeback with a redesigned i-drive design and making a splash on the bike expo circuit with thier new stuff. GT is developing their own internal gear box drive system now.

Things are looking better I'd say.

So would you favor the 04' GT ruckus 2.0 over an 05' kona shred (my other option)

I have been out of riding from about 1997 till now. I didn;t know of pacific buying out all the other companies. That would surely sour people on the GT name.

Over in the GT virtual booth section, the desc for that gear box says it based on a Shimano Nexus hub. So yeah old news I guess.
