    02 Monster T travel...

    Hi

Can someone please give me a difinitive answer on how much travel my 02 Monster T's (black ano lowers w/red decals) should have?

The rep reckons 175mm, or 6.75 inches, but I find that hard to believe. I can't get more than 5 inches out of them. I've got the recommended oil, 380ml, and one heavy spring and one medium spring installed.

    Thanks

I believe the 02 and earlier Monsters had 178mm (7") of travel. 03 and later went to 8" and of course the 03 Super Monster had 12".

Are you sure that all oil was purged out before you added it?

How much sag do you have?

If you have the proper sag, then start taking out oil.

how much do you weigh? Maybe you need lighter springs. I weigh about 200 and bottomed out my monsters about once every three-five rides with the stock springs.

    edit - FYI: 175 millimeter = 6.889 763 78 inch

you wouldn't FARKEN BELIEVE IT!! I JUST FARKING THREADED OUT THE TOP CAP!! AAARRRGGHHH!!!! FFS!!!!!

yeah, i weigh about the same 200lbs and get about an inch, maybe inch and a half sag.

so, two medium spring ya reckon? i'll have to try it. with two heavy springs i was getting some serious deflection.

    Use the oil level method.

I agree with Jayem. It sounds like you could have too much oil. I think the oil level measuring method is a much superior way of monitoring oil volume and performance. My '02 springs were a little too stiff for me. I went a step down and mixed one softer spring with one heavier spring for an ideal setup for my needs. You can mix an match springs to suit your needs. The oil level for an '02 Monster is 100mm.

03 was polished aluminum witha large black/gray stickers wrapped around...there is a model date posted around the drop-outs on every zocchi fork...go by that.

no don't do that, the stamp is almost always a year before (sometimes more) when the castings are actually made, not when they are available for sale to the public....

yeah, the lil stamp on the lowers says '01'...

well, i think they might be 01 then, as the guy before said his 02's had black decals. that being the case, how much travel should 01 Monster T's have?

    thanks again for the info

Travel is the same for 01 as the 02, 7" (178mm). The 03/04/05 Monsters went up 8" and 12lbs.
