    Any 2018 info yet?

Only thing I've heard so far is possibly the carbon Release. It's that time of year that 2018's are coming out but 2017's are still for sale but probably in limited numbers. So I'm on the fence whether to order a 2017 or wait until 2018 stuff is announced...but I hate to miss out on a nice 2017 if the 2018 isn't better and maybe more expensive. Two bikes I'm mostly interested in are the Catch 2 and Mason Pro. DB just tells me there's no info available when I asked but I'm nobody so I wouldn't expect them to tell me anything.

Message I just got from DB says Masons are coming around December and the Catch sometime AFTER that And no Catch 3 listed. Rep says they are going to see if they can get info on any changes for me. Hope they come through. But I don't want to wait until December or later unless any changes made are significant which I don't see being the case.

Wonder why so late in the year when most other brands already have theirs in shops being sold. Guess it's a 2017 for me.

Heard back from DB. 2018 Catch....

"Looks like the Catch 1 will be a Deore build next year, and the Catch 2 will be NX".

No word on suspension or brakes or other components. Just thought I'd pass that on.

The deore 1x has better potential range so I am good with that. Surely there will be a GX eagle build too.

Not from what I was told...not on the Catch at least. Maybe on one of the carbon Releases.

I'm curious to see what the do with the mission line especially regarding the suspension and if they are going to try to adapt level link to it.

I am loving my '17 mission pro though. It is a serious beast and rides flats and uphill amazingly. Wish the 36 factory had some sort of LO but the x2 in the rear with the firm setting makes pedal bob damn near nonexistent. I still want to see what the 2018 will look like though haha

I think there will be a carbon release. Based on the all red releases I've seen on Instagram.
AND, when I comment about it being carbon, my comments get deleted. lol

Not the best picture but here it is..

So far, there arent any bikes in the Diamondback lineup that's red framed with white Diamond logo on the front.

I see internal cable routing. Does that mean there will be a bottle cage on top of the downtube this time?

Looks like one cable still follows the top of the downtube.

Whenever someone asks about frame sizing, says they're 6' XX" tall, show them this pic. Holy XC race setup. "Eric Porter rides a large, so that must work for me!" Look at the seatpost height relative to the bars - My road bike doesn't have that much drop.
I would advise not taking my advice.

I really wonder about the ever changing size recommendations on the Release. When I bought it they recommended XL for 6'1" - 6'4", then they dropped it to 6'0" - 6'4", and lately it's back up to 6'2" - 6'6". I'm 6'1" and felt a bit better on the XL, but if I'm crazy enough to upgrade to a Carbon bike would be thinking about the Large (probably with a longer stem). Already the top of my seat is a couple of inches above my handlebars on the XL Release. If I jumped on a Large I wonder if the drop would look something like the picture (though Eric Porter is a good inch or two taller than me).

I'm 6'2" on a large and it feels kinda small...but not too small that I can't fine tune it. Here's how my seat is at the moment. I haven't dialed everything in yet so not sure if it's staying there...but height-wise it seems pretty close to where it will be when all is said and done...

Your seat height relative to the bars on your L looks similar to mine on the XL. I guess that means my seat over bars difference wouldn't be too ridiculous on a Large.

I'd give serious consideration towards carbon hoops on a 2017 aluminum frame vs a carbon frame and aluminum hoops for the same money or less at current prices...

Does anybody have any information on the 2018 Sync'r Pro and when it may be released? On the verge of pulling the trigger on the current (2017) model, but curious as to what 2018 has in store and when it might be released.

Send them a message. They will likely give you a ballpark estimate. But it seems that most of their stuff isn't coming out until end of the year.

Heard back from Diamondback - from what they can tell me, the Sync'r won't be changing much from 2017 to 2018 and they don't have a set release date for the 2018 - they expect another production run of the current model for September. But they also told me there will be a carbon model of the Mason coming for 2018.

Problem for me is that I'm old and weak enough (or my local trails are steep enough) that I'd want no more than 30T up front, even with a 10-50 Eagle in back. So those pretty new SRAM ovals, that only go down to 32T, aren't for me.

I got a 30T oval from 1UP components for my Catch 2 for a song. I think they were getting rid of their old inventory so I jumped on it.

    2018 Blanchard Rims?

I think I just received 2018 release rims?

I have a release 3 (2017) and I contacted DB warranty because my rear non-drive hub endcap was unscrewing. Actually I noticed I could pull my cassette away from my wheel (that's why the shifting was wonky!). I was just asking if I needed loctite or something to keep it on (hadn't found this forum). Before I knew it I was being sent a new wheel. The next day it arrived and it's actually a front and rear. No tire, tubeless valve, disc, or cassette. Just rims, rim tape, spokes, hubs (including freehub body) all assembled of course.

They have a different color pattern than any of the release wheels I can see on the site - they are matte black with gloss black graphics and a couple gray bits, no colors or white markings.

I know the old freehub was 4 pawl and I'm half temped to take this apart to see if it's the new 3 pawl that's been floating around, but the endcaps are pretty snug so I might just leave it and try to count the "clicks".

Kind of excited since I'm in the city this is the only bike I have room for so maybe I can have a set of wheels that are more city appropriate? Different gearing and tires should help.

    -Zack

Interesting - Fox suspension, Easton ARC 30 wheels, and it looks a bit like a steeper head angle (more like the Catch the Release)

Steeper HTA, lower stack? Still no room for water bottle cage? Hello 2014.

Yeah...not interested in the steep HTA at all. I'm happy with my 2017 Release 3 as my entry into the FS world but honestly as my skills improve and I get back into mountain biking more...not sure I'd get another DB. I'm thinking that depending on standards in the next 2-3 years...I'll probably just buy a new much nicer frame and swap parts since the parts I have now are on the higher end so that works out well for me if they are swappable. Shame too...I mean it is hard to tell by just one picture without having specs in print...but quick glance it does seem that they might have missed the mark with this one. But consider the photo too...tilted, bike at an angle with the rear further away, front wheel turned...it could be just the bad photo that's making it look less appealing. And it's red. Red bikes have always been a turn off for me.

Until we get some firm specs (and some test rides) we're all debating vapor. Still, I wouldn't rule anything out just because the HTA was 67-68 degrees instead of 66. There are some very nice bikes out there with 68ish degree head tubes that I'd be delighted to own.

I think the Fox 36 Elite fork only comes in 160mm and 170mm travel options. My guess is the fork travel would be 160mm.

I own a 68 degree bike and now a 66 degree bike. The 66 is by far a more fun to me bike to ride. So if the new Release is 68...no thanks. 67 I'd have to think about it. But like I said above...I'd not likely get another DB full suspension bike anyways. I'll use my parts and get a new frame from someone else next time around so it really doesn't matter to me what the HTA is on the carbon Release. It could straight up and down for all I care.

How do we know its a steeper HTA? This frame looks small, might be why it looks steep.

There looks to be "some" internal routing right at the headtube...

I agree...picture angles are wonky too but just from the pics it does look steep. Again...that's just first impressions from what little there is to go by. I don't know why they'd change the bike backwards from what it is now in the 2018 version but who knows.

Quick turn on the picture to level the wheels to the ground.
Im sure the perspective is off too with the front wheels being larger in the picture but looks like 66-ish now

The bike looks sweet! But they really need to figure out the internal cable routing for the rear brake and shifter so a water bottle can mount inside the triangle.

Look at the stack of head tube spacers! I think they might still be playing around with components and settings.

In that respect it is good to see how much R&D goes into their bikes... or at least that bike.

Catch 2 is getting a drivetrain downgrade from GX to NX. That's all I know.

Price tag looks to be $5,300 for that model so it will still be a pretty penny even with a corporate discount. Not a bad value with a corporate discount but without one, it's not so great of a price. You can get a Yeti SB5 carbon with an SLX/XT (similar build) for $4,800 or a Yeti SB5 carbon GX Eagle model for $5,200. I wonder if they will drop the price of their aluminum release bikes at all.

$4,800 - $4,900 will also get you a Santa Cruz Carbon with GX Eagle. Pick your poison...5010, Hightower, Bronson....I'll take one of them for that price over the DB any day. I would expect a $1,200-1,500 discount with corp. deal so the carbon Release might be a <$4k bike which would make it a bit more appealing.

So would I, But I don't have a santacruz pro deal, I have a DB pro deal....(better than corp discount)

Nice! That's good then! Definitely a sweet looking bike! I wonder what it will weigh in at and I wonder what the quality of their carbon will be like as far as weight goes. My price range is still in the aluminum arena anyways haha. Nice find and thanks for sharing!

I'm still loving my 2017 Release 2! I don't mind pushing the extra weight for what I paid with the corporate discount and an additional 10% off coupon. Still way better than anything else I could get for my money.

Yeah that's true! Seems pretty accurate based on where they currently fall with their aluminum Release MSRP though. A release 2 is $3,500 so I could see them knocking it up by $1,800 for a comparable carbon version. Could be a little less but I would be surprised if the MSRP will be below $5,000 for that model.

Nice! Yeah I agree with you. To me, I am still not sure if the weight savings of carbon is worth all the extra money. I don't race professionally so to me I can't really justify a carbon bike. I am looking at doing some enduro racing this year but I don't think I would ever go to a pro level where I could justify the money. Plus I need to have some money around to fix my bike when things break haha.

I think they artificially inflate their prices with high list prices though because they know most folks are going to know about and use the corp. deal and get the bike for closer to what it's actually worth. Makes it seem like they are getting a much better deal than it really is. No offence to DB but I just don't think they are in a spot yet that they can demand $5k+ or $6k+ for a bike and actually expect people to pay those prices.

Yep I agree! I think most people do get the corporate deal. With the deal I got on my aluminum release 2, I definitely felt that was a great deal though! Just have to wait for it to go on a further sale with the corporate discount and then use the 10% off code. I got mine for just under $2K and any other bike I found that was comparable was at least $3K or more.

Yeah eagle would be a nice upgrade! haha nice! You could just upgrade your drivetrain to GX Eagle though. The GX Eagle is a good value for what you get. You would probably be able to get a good amount for your X1 drivetrain too.

I really want to try a mid-travel 29er though! Rocky Mountain's new 2018 Instinct looks sweet! It's a 140mm/140mm bike. Their alloy 50 model sells for $3,200 and it's a pretty good spec!

Well I just happen to have a well specked, slack, trail bike that less that $3200 and went on sale five mins ago....

Nice! Which bike? I just got my release 2 so I don't think I can justify another bike but just curious. Yeah, 27.5 wheels are nice in the corners for sure!

Have to say I was hoping to see them moving towards Shimano brakes once I saw the 4c and then the 5c came back Sram strong.

The 2017's prices will only decrease for a bit in 2018. 2016's Catch 2 only JUST were sold out on Diamondback.com and in some ways the 2017s were a downgrade over the 2016. Color, internal dropper, and tires I like did it for me on the 2017.

No idea if they will make up for it somewhere else on the bike or drop the price. That's the only info I was able to get was the move from GX to NX.

On a side note...I was informed that it's a possibility that the carbon Release will be a frame only option too at some point.

Pro deals are given when u work for a company that sells their product. Corp discount is 40%at best. The "pro deal" I can get is around 60%.

A part of the deal is that the bike gets shipped to this location that sells them to verify I am legit.

Corp discount comes right to your door.

So dealer cost? Or below dealer cost? I had the Trek University discount when I was working at a shop last year. The discount was bonkers. Sadly I didn't take advantage of it enough before the shop closed and I lost my access to the discount.

I have no idea what dealer cost is for DB, I have asked many times and they won't give that up. This "pro deal" program (nobody really says pro deal anymore) is in between 50 and 60 percent off retail.
    Sometimes....certain bikes go about 66%off.
I say "pro deal" online so the "pro deal" website doesn't get attacked.

Diamondback wants you to ride their bikes, if your selling bikes, so you know the product.

And the "pro deal" has to be shipped to a known seller of their products. The base probly isn't selling any DBs

Actually we do have an "Outdoor Rec" department where we can get lots of sporting equipment at a discount and the stuff is shipped to them on base. In fact that's how I got my 2016 Catch 2 and I got Haanjo Comp for a friend of mine. Maybe our Outdoor rec gets the "pro deal".

Maybe I should get a part-time job at the local Dick's...just long enough to grab a pro deal on a carbon Release and maybe a new gravel bike...haha...other than them...no DB dealers around. I'm happy with corp. discount though. DB doesn't have to even let us have that so I won't look a gift horse in the mouth when it comes to these discount programs.

Talked to a rep about the "Line" model. As an entry level for myself I'm looking forward to it. It's unavailable until Mid-December. My plan was to purchase a "Hook" because of my budget but after finding the corp discount posted on this forum I will be purchasing the next model up. To me the savings is worth the wait and I'll have more time to purchase other gear that I'll need.
