GRINDURO 16 | Weapon of choice?

What's your weapon of choice? MTB or Cross/adventure?

I did it on a Niner RLT9 last year and it was a blast. I'm debating it or my HT this year, but realistically it'll probably be the RLT again. With the exception of the long moonscape descent and the single track, the rest of the course (75% of it) is really better suited to a dropbar bike, at least for me. The only time I'm faster on my HT is when I'm going downhill, granted it is a Canfield N9 and not exactly XC geo, but still...

Thanks for the response. Good to hear from someone who has ridden it.

How was the single track? Rough stuff?

Not particularly, although it was a virgin trail last year, freshly constructed, so it'll depend on how well it's held up over the last year and if they do maintenence before the event. Nothing technical, very similar to the trails around the South Bay but more trees.

I like to ride my cross bike. I would never race cross where I live because I don't like how the courses are set up.

I'm hoping to find some fire roads to ride. We have some nice easy single track here that's really fun. It's beautiful in the fall when the Aspens turn.

Thanks for the info. I'm rolling in from Colorado for this -- used this ride as an excuse for a new drop bar bike. I went with Open's Gravel Plus.

I'll be on my Steelman Eurocross with WTB CrossBoss 35s. My XC race bike would be overkill, and I feel confident riding my Steelman on singletrack.

    Super stoked!

Wanted to add this,,, they are serous when they talk about the potential for flatting on this event. I lost count of how many people were on the side of the trail fixing flats.

Thanks for the Knowledge. What tires did you ride? Thinking about the 40mm WTB nanos.

I'd say the two most popular tires in use were the Nano and the Bruce Gordon Rock N Road. I chose the Nano setup tubeless and was quite happy with how it performed. It's not a light tire by any stretch, but it's pretty comfy and grips very well.

Hey, I have a Grinduro registration spot if anyone is looking for one. Hurt my back a week ago and I'm not going to be back in action in time.

^^ Still available? I have just enough time to not train!
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice--pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
