    New question here. Pivoterium!

    Evening Pivotees!

I see this forum has now been assigned Pivot bikes too so here is my question: Does anyone know if we will be able to extradite the Mach 5 to the UK any when soon?

In the mean while here is the Stumpy that I hope to swap the kit from if a particular frame takes me, all the Specialized stuff will be RACE FACE by then but the new frame will probably 09 and I will of course be looking at many other bikes:

Well......USA delivery was slated for Feb/Mar....and Speedgoatcycles has recieved the production version for testing so I can't see why UK delivery wouldn't be close to the same timeline. Speedgoat was taking preorders for frames and completes so my guess if you really want want badly enough, best thing to do is to call them.

Most of your parts should swap over, but you'll need new cranks (an x-type, that's not TruVativ), front derailleur (e-type), and an integrated headset (can't tell if your Stumpy has a normal HS or not). I believe the bottom bracket bearings come with the frame (I was told they're a OE product at this time) and that the seatpost is the same size (30.9??), but you'll need to check on that.

I was also told that fully built bikes come first, they'll start shipping frames after they've filled bike orders.

The actual headset required is the Campy Hiddenset which is the internal style headset with press-fit cups (Campy makes them of course and Ritchey also).

With the integrated style the bearings go right into the frame (no cups) but on the Pivot it requires cups that are press fit (similar to a standard HS but inside the frame for lower stack height).

30.9mm on the Post (same as Specialized).

EDIT: Headset is a 44.0mm Press Fit with Cups. Ritchey and Cane Creek ZS-2 and ZS-6 Zero Stack are compatible.

Why do I need new cranks? I was under the impression that my Giga X-Pipe (hope that’s spelt right) BB would fit the same as other cranks.

I was already planning to replace the front derailleur, but I will probably wait until I get a new frame and then put an 08 XT on.

    Thanks

Shimano, FSA and Raceface use the same diameter spindles on their cranks (their external BBs should all be interchangable), but the GXP spindles are a different diameter. Since the press-in BB (the type used on the Mach 4 and Mach 5) is a Shimano (I haven't heard of any other compatible BBs), you'd be able to use Shimano, RaceFace or FSA X-type cranks. Truvativs won't work.

    Ain't proprietary components great.

    Oh I get it!

The new Mach 5 has a press in BB so all external ones wont work and my crank arms wont fit, right? I see Shimano’s new press in BB they have resurrected from about 15 years ago seems to be finally catching on then, I also see allot of Lapierre bikes have them now too.

Love it when new non standard products come out.

    Edit on my previous post:

Headset is 44.0mm Press Fit with cups like the Cane Creek Zero Stack.

Do you know if the Pivot's headtube is the same as the Cane Creek "semi-integrated" headtubes?

Hmmm, maybe it's time to email Pivot. Or call.

Looks like Cane Creek calls it semi-integrated. Hmmmm I always thought with integrated style the bearings sat in the headtube with no cups and internal was with press fit cups inside the headtube. I emailed Pivot and they said it was "hiddenset" so that is what I ordered and it is not even close to fitting (it is too small). So I have a "ZeroStack" coming and will try again.

    Keep us posted

Let us know if the Zero Stack (I think that's CC's tradename for the semi-integrated) works. I read somewhere that the headset is compatible with Campy's hiddenset, but it looks like you're finding out differently.

We have a winner! Cane Creek ZS-6 or ZS-2 Zero Stack is the correct press fit (only difference is the grade of bearing with ZS-6 being the higher quality stainless version).

Hiddenset is a no-go by a big margain.

Moving on to the front derailleur install.

nope...as coolhandluchs said, Shimano, FSA and Raceface external cranks WILL work, just the truvativs won't.

    Oh boy!

I think that is what I was trying to say but this is too complicated for me, doesn’t matter anyway, my cranks will need replacing by then anyway and the only crank I would by would be XT.

I see you have a nice new avatar there Cris, I almost didn’t recognize you.
