Looking for Eurpean Steel Frame MTB Hardtail Bikes

    Hello all:

My wife's family lives in Eastern Europe and my wife and I would like to have bikes for when we visit. I am looking for very good value frames made of Reynolds 853 or something comprable that can be purchased online and shipped to her parents house. That way I can have the parts waiting for me when I arrive and can build up the bikes there.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Dave

PS: I am also looking for a quality wheel builder. As both the frame and wheels would be too costly to take with us on the plane.

Made in Europe or European brands getting frames from elsewhere?

My build in progress is using a 2soulscycles frame.

    www.cotic.co.uk 853 frames at a good price
www.on-one.co.uk Cro Mo and ti frames at very good prices
Both companies have reputations for building good handling, well thought out frames
cheap parts and good wheels are available from www.merlincycles.co.uk, they also have a range of frames.
As you may have guessed, these companies are in the United Kingdom
If your wife's family is in an EU member country, there will be no import duty to pay of orders from the UK

    ditto!

you can get On Ones with free/lower shipping costs from www.chainreactioncycles.com .... at least they are a bit better than directly from On One in my experience

I'm looking for frames that are available in Europe regardless of place of origin. I will look at on one. I'm looking for good value as we will only be using them for three weeks a year.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I've been riding a Cotic Soul for for a couple of years now. And still loving it.

So much so that I have just freshened it up with new wheels, brakes, shifters and rear d. Good as new all over again.

There's just as much available in Europe as there is anywhere else. BeOne or Focus are excellent frames and very well priced.

What are you looking for? FS / HT? Steel, ally, carbon, ti?

Thanks batsandcats, I wasn't aware of those French makers. The Sobre looks like a nice value steel hardtail.

Great thread. Any of these bargain based like On One? I'm looking for a great frame, great tubing, and low price, like we have the Jamis Dragons, Nashbar/no-name 853's in the US.

Do you know if any of those smaller manufacturers/builders in EU are building also 29ers? Any recommendations? I know UK has some builders but have not found much information of those.

Would like to get me a custom build 29er frame from a quality steel or even Ti more or less based on my XL sixed KM geometry. Other possibility is of course stick on On One, Surly, Salsa, Vassago or Singular etc but custom would be nice..

I know that 2soulscycles has done a 29er prototype (they do custom work too)
http://vagabondecycles.blogspot.com has one or more 29er on their blog.

Darren Crisp (titanium only, in Italy) does 29ers.

Quite beautiful 29er there in the gallery, with very clean lines and awesome fork. But might be little out of my leage *checking bank account*.

On One Ti 29er might of course be one good option have to do some search about that as well. Still experiences considering EU builders are welcome
