    pedal problem - cleat/pedal play

My shoes wore out totally, so i got a new pair of shoes. Moved the cleats from the old shoes to the new ones and now they are floating around way too much. What would cause this.

its the same cleats and pedals. just new shoes.

all are Shimano. pedals xt, shoes, and cleats.

the cleats are screwed in tight, they aren't slipping. they are just floating too much while clipped in. i did not change the release tension.

i also took care to make sure the cleat that was on the old left shoe went on the new left shoe. thanks

If old cleats are properly secured in new shoes and nothing between cleat and pedal has been messed with, it's got to be the shoes. Is the sole/base of the shoe where cleats are attached thinner or less robust than your old shoes? Maybe the cleat mount/shoe sole interface is more flexible and that's what you are feeling?

i don't think its more flexible. it seem stiff and is basically the same model of shoe, just newer.

i do think maybe the cleat box area is less deep, so the cleat sits higher. when it is clipped in there is a slight gap between teh platform portion of the pedal and the bottm of the shoe.

    any fix for that?

If the sole of the previous shoe was contacting the pedal and reducing/interfering with what would have been float...did you put the cleats in the same location on the new shoes? Could be a matter of a mm or 2.
