    Fox Transfer cable help

A ways back I bought a Fox Transfer from a local rider. It had a metal “barrel” taped to it which I believe I used to install the post. Soon after I hated the lever and removed the post until I could get a new lever.

Now I have a Wolftooth lever and ordered a Shimano cable kit. The “barrel” on the new cable seems to fit the post just fine and makes me think the individual “barrel” that came with the post was for cables with a smaller barrel on the end. I’ve also watched some install videos and some mentioned using a “ferule” but I couldn’t really see what they meant in the video.

Can I use just the cable that I have?

If so, do I need to use a ferule as well?

    * Trying to post pics but doesn’t work.

If it's like mine it uses a standard shifter cable and bushing or 'barrel'.

Here's some deet's, even specific to Fox Transfer and Wolftooth.

What Shimano cable kit did you get. Sounds like it might be a mtb brake cable if it has a transverse barrel on the end. The barrel (Fox calls it a bushing) is for shifter type cables with axial barrel ends. You should be using a shift cable and housing.
    What, me worry?

Think I can use the brake cable?

It seems like it fits just like the Fox bushing would.

No bueno. That barrel is putting all its pressure on the tip of the fingers. You don't want it to snap the fingers.

Just use what you're supposed to use, shifter cable, shifter housing and the Fox barrel.
