    Chris King Inset 2 Woes

Anyone running this headset and having to constantly pull the headset back in to stop creaking/popping? I'm 99.9% sure it's the play that develops in the compressions ring/steerer interface. Followed the install instructions even replaced the green o-ring thinking maybe it was damaged from over torquing.

    Bike is a yeti sb6.

Before my weekend ride, I decided to pull this headset and apart and attempt a hack/fix for what I felt was the problem area. I removed the proprietary King o-ring, compression ring, and bearing ring. I'm just running a standard compression ring from another headset which has wider flange and mates perfectly with the griploc cap. I've got about 50 miles on the bike of pretty hard riding and the headset is completely silent. I'm beginning to think the CK solution for compressing the headset may be flawed but before I come to this conclusion, I plan on ordering a new compression ring and bearing ring from CK. It's possible mine have are out of tolerance and allowing enough play to develop to unseat the assembly.
