I have a xtr m9000 drive side pedal with a chipped cone and some out of round balls. They were only $75 new back in 2014 (pre-MRP shimano) so don't want to spend $50 on a single side Shimano rebuild assembly, after all these pedals have a lot of rough miles on them. I see m8000 rebuild assemblies for half the price, I figure I could steal the balls and cone from that assembly and get my xtr going again for relatively cheap.
